Dave a question about PEYTON PLACE and other Fox Shows. Dave I spoke with Fox about Peyton Place on the phone. Here is the email you can use. I would direct it to Fox Home Entertainment. [email protected] What is going on between 20th Century Fox and Shout! Factory's release of Fox tv series??? I read this statement in another thread. Fans of Fox series might ask that question in the above email address which I have posted here for Dave .

I brought this thread out again for the fan's of Fox TV Shows. The question was asked on the Peyton Place thread about past problems with Fox. I have no answer to the question perhaps it is buried deep in this thread.

Gee, I dunno. But does every thread have to be hijacked into a "Peyton Place" thread? Some of us are getting tired of hearing about it.

We're just concerned about the behavior of Fox Home Entertainment. Of all the home video companies in existence, I've never seen anyone act as deranged and strange as Fox.

If you think Fox is deranged, you ought to see what the UK division gets up to.

I was able to find the post from Mr Finn. Here is what he stated last year about Fox programs. I do not know if this helps to understand why there are rights problems with Peyton Place and the other Tv series that are leased out but here it is.
I love all the passion for the titles you want to see on DVD. Really, I do. It isn't that we have given up on any of it. Quite the opposite. Depending on a title, there could be many reasons for delays or why they aren't available --- legal rights to the series, agreements with other partners, current slate of releases are just too plentiful to add something that may not have a big demand, financial, etc - it isn't a mystery, and like any other business - everything has to be lined up. We are proud that we got the full season of ALLY MCBEAL out recently with the original music intact -- the fans responded extremely well to it and that in turn is going to help us get the ball rolling on other titles. Mary Tyler Moore will be complete by the end of the year and we hope that the cast will come together to celebrate it.
I would be lying if I told you we don't sit around talking about what we think could be cool designs for a DVD box set release of the Adam West Batman series...we are fans too. Wish i could share with you my favorite idea for one...
hang in there and thanks for your support.

So... Amazon has The Bob Newhart Show Seasons 5 & 6 up for pre order. However, there's no release date given. Does this actually mean Fox is prepping these for release or is this just a tactic on the part of Amazon to show Fox there *is* a market for the last two seasons?

Bob I asked Gord and Dave if they had heard anything for you on The Bob Newhart Show. Gord stated that they have not heard any news. Strange because i also saw them up for pre order at Amazon.

And it still doesn't come anywhere close to making up for any of these titles *not* being available to purchase on pressed DVD!

Batman Fans METV here in Chicago and perhaps other parts of the Country have just began rebroadcast of Batman a few months ago. The first two episode's of the series began to reair last week at 6:00PM CST. The episode's are not even cut and they look HD!!! I saw things I had never seen before.

I don't think Fox ever picked the ball up! Their treatment of their pre-1980 library is nothing short of embarrassing. They released all of the Irwin Allen shows but didn't remaster the most popular of all of them, Lost In Space. That one they put out from 30 year old 1-inch tapes. Other than those shows and a season and a half of Big Valley, they've done nothing with their 50s and 60s catalogue. They licensed out a couple of series, Peyton Place and Room 222, providing old crappy 16mm transfers that were done decades ago. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Mary Tyler Moore Show is the only 70s series they actually completed. Other shows, like Bob Newhart and White Shadow, they just abandoned. Funny how most of those shows weren't even theirs, they came from MTM or Four Star. And they do a great job of handling the MGM catalogue, if by handling we mean doing nothing with. But, hey, if you want that 19th re-issue of Buffy, they're the company for you.

Neil, I did a little research, and I can tell you that there were at least three other 70s shows that Fox completed on their own: The animated and live-action adaptations of Planet of the Apes, and of course, M*A*S*H. They would have finished The Bob Newhart Show next year, but according to someone from SitcomsOnline who spoke with one of the Fox executives, the final two seasons were put on hold due to music clearance issues.
And I don't think it's just their pre-1980s TV shows that Fox doesn't care about. I also don't think they care about their 1980s TV shows either (at least the ones that premiered before Rupert Murdoch, the hands-down slimiest businessman of all time, took over the company in October 1986).

Ah yes, the singing of "Oklahoma" in the last episode no doubt. That explains the Amazon listing that never went anywhere.
"Remington Steele" is the only other MTM catalog show completed on DVD.

Great post!
I hate 20th Century Fox with a passion.
I get angry all over again for what they did (or didn't do) to Lost In Space every time I pop in one of the DVDs to watch. (and to think I pre-ordered Season 1 for $54.99 when it was first announced.)
Room 222 could also have looked much better than it does but I really don't think Fox gives a hoot.
They're also at the bottom of my list for not issuing any more seasons of Newhart or Big Valley.

Agree, Neil nailed this one. I remember that too (Lost in Space). And the stallout with BV is a sore spot with more than a few fans out there.

Room 222, great show but awful, imo, prints for a show of that era to be released on DVD in that shape.

I wonder how long a Fox-property master list would be... how many shows are in the vault?

Funny how you asked that question. Over the past few days I was putting together a master list of Fox shows and TV movies. The only problem is that it only consists of shows that were initially produced by Fox (IOW, no MTM or Four Star programs), and there are no unsold pilots, either. The list goes as far back as 1949, and ends in 1986, just before Rupert Murdoch took over.
A few more things I found interesting:
1) It seems that Fox Television really favored ABC back then. A lot of these shows originated on that channel.
2) Although the company is identified by its searchlights logo, and its Alfred E. Newman jingle, they didn't start using them to represent their TV division until 1960.
