Putting together a 5.1 system for our first home theater. But don't know where to start.
Any recommendations for around $1,000?
We have looked at:
http://www.htd.com/Products/level-two-speakers
The towers, center, surround pair, and sub come to ~$1150
http://www.aperionaudio.com/speakers/intimus-family/intimus-4b-harmony-sa
For $1125
Are there any good brands to look at in this price range? Do people mix and match or just get all the same brand?
Our room is about 15x25. Would it be worth considering higher end systems, possibly 1500-2000? But we are on a budget. Thanks.

General guidelines...
1. Buy them from the same manufacturer...and preferably from the same line
2. Subwoofer does NOT have to match the other 5/7.
3. The biggest speaker you can live with is almost always the best choice...
Is this $1000-ish just for the 5 speakers and sub?

Now, onto your selections...
I like HTD subwoofers...mainly cause they still do them the "old way"...with an outboard amp. I do not like their "other" speakers(but that is just me)...this speaker is overpriced...(IMO)

The main thing I don't like is it is woefully innefficient. 87db, really???
That "innefficiency" is my main problem with Aperion as well.
These are half the price and twice as efficient...

87db vs 90db...
90db requires half the power to achieve the same volume.

By the way, the Kapton tweeter in the HTD level three is an entirely different animal. Kapton tweeters rock(and are worth the power penalty...even though it is actually slightly more efficient than the level 2, and "kapton is more efficient than a dome???" makes me wonder what crappy tweeter HTD uses in the level 2)

So you guys would recommend the DV series, on Amazon the BIC DV62 book shelf speakers, the DV64 towers, the DV62 center, and the lvl 3 sub?

That would come out to a little less than 1k. That would be great.
We have a receiver. It is 130watts per channel. Appreciate your help!

Yes, we have a receiver that is 130w per channel. We just need the speakers.

I think that is a bigger "bang for your buck" than an entire Aperion or entire HTD set.
Those DV64 are deep players too...
If you listen to "pure direct" with CD...they will easily achieve 30hz.

Cool. They also have this set: Acoustech, I could get that set with the HTD sub, but not sure if its worth it. I've read some stuff on the bic dv series and like it. That is probably perfect.
