What, no nomination for The English Patient? The disdain for this film continues to confound me...
Steve - I considered nominating it, as I really do love this film, and despite my bias believe that it will stand the test of time quite well. I didn't nominate it, because I know it wouldn't stand a snowball's chance in Hell of lasting anytime in a tourney on the HTF. I share your befuddlement at the reaction this wonderful film receives on the HTF. But there you are.

- Walter.

List updated - we're up to 41 films. How about some less "popular" movies? Still no nom for The English Patient? Wings of Desire? :frowning:

I stuck with 'popular' films simply because I believe they have a better chance of being around 40 or 50 years from now. If a film isn't really on the radar now, what event will change that in the future? There is one notable exception to that rule from a past film that comes to mind, but I'll leave the identity of that film a mystery for the time being.

Certainly smaller films have been 'discovered' by future cineastes, but I suppose the scope of the definition of 'classic' defines whether or not these types of films fit your criteria.

If you want more films, hand out more nominations. :)
