i was watching casino on the bravo network a few weeks ago. a typical conversation that had joe pesci in it went something like
"i hate you stupid (brief pause) idiot, you sound like a freaking moron you fat friend." the added words even sound like pesci talking in a normal voice, instead of him yelling them.
or there's always
"Yippie ky yay mister falcon"

For quite a long time, I only knew the first two Die Hard films from TV screenings, where they just cut the line short, so I always just thought the line was "Yippie-Ki-Yay". It wasn't until I saw Die Hard With A Vengeance that I relaised there was more to the line.

One of my favorites is the tv edit of Lost Boys. They replace a line "holy shit" with "holy . . . shorts" and shorts does not in any way sound like it was original.

There was a lot of "witchin'!" instead of "bitchin'!" in the Fast Times TV version.

The edit of the Jerk had Steve Martin say, "P.S. Is grandma still burping?" instead of "farting."

You aren't kidding about the DUMB editing on Smokey and the Bandit, Ryan! Oh, man, some of the voice overs in the TV version I heard had me just about in tears, laughing. Especially since the "new and improved" words or lines did not even sound like the original actors giving the lines, and it was obvious what they were saying, by reading the actor's lips. Plus, I am a huge fan of that movie, and I knew the dialog they had to blip for TV.

"Would a cop taking a WALK on the side of the road interest you?"

"Do the letters TAKE OFF mean anything to you?"

"You are not the product of my GENES"

It has been a long time since I've seen this one on regular commercial TV [thank God for my DVD!!] and those are just the highlights of what I remember of the edited lines.

The most amazing change I've seen on TV (in a bad way) is in Robocop: In the theatrical version, Clarence Bodicker runs over Emil, the disolving guy with a truck, making him explode, but on TV, he simply avoids him!

One of the funniest things I've seen is when one of the local Mexican channels (near San Diego) ran the film with all the foul language intact (it was in English with Spanish subtitles) and when the characters like Boddicker would say "motherf***er or c***sucker" the subtitles would read "tu diablo!" ("you devil!").

They DID cut most of the drug stuff, like when Morton snorts coke, or even when Robo stamps on the coke containers on the floor of the factory. Some of the more extreme violence was also edited. Melting Man Emil was still there though.

Lynda, I remember VERY WELL the "cop taking a walk" from the TV "Smokey & The Bandit".

lynda-marie another bad edit in s&b is orignally you sons of bitches couldn't open an umbrella to you scum buzzards couldn't open an umbrella.
you know darn well it isn't jackie gleason's voice on the edits. it sounds like somebody who does voices for cartoons.

mallrats is great cause the guy doing jay's voice is so obviously not mr. mewes.

I've seen a version of The Road Warrior on TV with alternate footage in the final chase sequence which makes some of the grim takedowns look not as bad.

The Sword and the Sorcerer has a very different TV cut to the theatrical film. All the nudity was replaced with alternate (clothed) footage and instead of being crucified the lead character is simply tied up to the cross.
