Amazon.com has From Here to Eternity listed for release on October 1, 2013. Once I saw this I had to preorder it right away. Hopefully we see more of Burt and Frank films on BD.

Another Best Picture winner that the Academy got right IMO. One of the very few winners, like Best Years of Our Lives, which can stand repeated viewings and grow in stature over time.

Thankfully, it was not given to Twilight Time.While I am a regular customer of theirs, I also like my discs a little bit cheaper and widely available.

I do appreciate their efforts though in releasing titles that would likely never be on blu otherwise. When it comes to a Best Picture winner, however, is a different story.

I remember reading this film was originally released in stereo, but those sound masters no longer exist...(?)

Besides the stereo release wasn't From Here To Eternity released in 1:85 widescreen? Here we go again!

Synopsis:

Sony's VP of Catalog Restorations Grover Crisp is notoriously meticulous about getting these right...if you read the press release, you'll see that the blu-ray's sourced from a 4k scan from the original camera negative...I believe it was shot in Academy ratio 1.37:1, however!!!

Excellent! This is one of my favorite films, I'm looking forward to picking it up on October 1. My wallet is going to hate me, as I also plan on buying The Big Parade, House of Wax, and The Little Mermaid.I wonder, will this include the full 44-minute version of "Fred Zinnemann: As I See It" or will it be the same 9-minute excerpt from the DVD. I'm hoping it's the full version, as I've never seen it before. But I can live with the 9-minute one, as it's miles ahead of the lousy 2.5-minute "The Making of From Here to Eternity" excerpt from The Lady with the Torch.
