Not really related to HT, but I thought I'd mention it here since most of us don't really care for Bose too much.

I recently purchased their Bose X aviation headset. I must say that out of all the headsets I've used so far in the plane, this is probably the best overall. I think there are others that are just as quiet and maybe one or two that are quieter, but none are as comfortable.

Lightweight, and very low pressure on the head. I can wear it for 7-8 hours and not get a headache.

I guess everything they make doesn't suck...

Yeah, I've heard their headphones do have really good sound. Unfortunately, I also heard all their speakers and headphones use the same driver (singular) ;).

I have used their consumer noise canceling headphones on transatlantic American Airlines flights, and was very impressed.

They are very comfortable, and even without turning on the active noise cancellation, they do a good job sealing out external noise. Then when you DO turn on the canceling, its like you are in a cone of silence!

Very comfortable too....the only phones I have every worn that do not hurt me ears.

Oh, and they do sound pretty good too, although I have done no back to back testing whatsoever.

Now, if they were only 1/2 the cost! $300 is just more than I will pay for these phones, great performance aside.

Pretty much sums up my views on Bose. I don't think they make junk like some feel they do, I just think their stuff is priced about twice what its worth.

How can Small drivers in headphones have frequency response of 10Hz - 21Khz ? Is this true ? I read the specs of the headphones on the link posted my Geoff.

I would like to be able to see them and try them before making a purchase.

They ear cups look quite small to properly seal the ears, and I have a somewhat negative opinion of Sennheiser products in general. I own a pair of their lower end wireless phones, and was very disappointed with the performance AND the build quality...hissy, and cheesy looking plastic.

That said, I am sure some of their stuff is better than others.

I concur. I own a pair of Sennheiser HD 600s, which can be purchased for $279 at the link provided. I've listened to the Bose noise-cancelling and it startles me to think of the difference in quality.

Jason, if you get a chance to listen to some Sennheisers, seize the opportunity. You will be amazed by the difference.

Actually it wouldn't surprise me much at all for a sealed headphone system to have that kind of frequency response. remember your ear is only about an inch from the driver and both your ear and the driver are in the same sealed area. the driver wouldn't need to expend much enegy at all to produce a 10hz sound wave under those conditions.

Geoff,

I'm sorry, I don't have any experience with that company. I recently had a student from Switzerland that used some Sennheiser, and he liked them.

Keep in mind these are used for intercoms in loud airplanes so there are some differences between the models I've used and the ones you're talking about.

Brian,

Jeez, I wish my aviation headset was only $300. The one I have was a cool $1,000.
