A recent update to the Flixster Movies app allows users to play their UltraViolet movie collection on their AppleTV via Airplay.

Now there isn't a popular multimedia device left that doesn't play UV movies.

I'd still argue that the AppleTV doesn't. My home computer is too old to be compatible with Airplay, so if the AppleTV can't get it on its own, I can't get it on the AppleTV. The workaround is a nice option for those who can take advantage of it, but the AppleTV device itself still won't recognize any UV content or providers. Frustrating.

Most of my UV movies will only play in SD on my iPad via the Flixter app. So I'd only be sending SD to my TV through airplay, therefore it's useless to me. The only way I can get HD ultraviolet streams is through the Vudu app on my Blu-ray player.

Roku, on the other hand, provides full support for Flixster movies.

I have one of the older Rokus that doesn't, unfortunately… you can use the Flixster app to watch movie trailers, but that's about it. It can still stream Netflix at 1080p though.

This isn't about the computer app. It's the iPhone, or iPad, flixster app that has AirPlay built-in. And have you tried to use vudu or target ticket on your older roku box?

My mistake about the computer app. I tried, and am not impressed, with the Flixster app. Sure, it works on an AppleTV via Airplay, but is limited to SD only. I suppose it's a nice little workaround in a pinch, but if I'm gonna watch something through UV, it better be in HD -- otherwise I'll just stick to the Blu-ray disc that gave me the code in the first place. Please don't mistake my frustration at the system for frustration with the messenger… it's just annoying that Apple refuses to play nicely with everyone else. The whole digital online in the cloud thing could and should have been settled already (I blame pretty much all parties).

Unfortunately, the Vudu app isn't supposed on the older Roku.. never heard of or seen the Target app on there, so I would assume the same. Amazing that my Roku, which I got I think three years ago, is mostly useless. It functions just fine for Netflix or Amazon streaming, and reasonably well for MLB.TV, but you just can't get any of the UV services on it. I bought the AppleTV for another reason entirely, but it's really frustrating that I'd have to buy another Roku just to get access to my UV library in HD.

Is that part true, SD only?

I have no earthly idea why, but the app only seems to support the SD versions, even for titles I own in HD.

Gotcha Josh, was asking if anyone else could independently confirm that. It's another example of the infuriating inconsistencies in UV that keeps me far from it....

For what it's worth, I was running the app on my iPhone -- I don't have an iPad. I don't know if the iPad version of the app offers an HD stream that the iPhone does not. I'd be interested to know if it's any different on the iPad too.

I have 2 of those original Roku boxes but, they are 5-6 years old I didn't think they were still for sale 3 years ago. Having a Roku 3 now I can tell you the difference is night and day and well worth the upgrade. Don't know if I have ever watched a UV movie in SD, I have about 850 UV movies, 99% HDX.
