I am currently doing some research to build my first HTPC. For the moment I use a NAS synology DS210j with Xbox360.
I want to be able to store my movies (2.5 TB), photos, music and powers on my TV (HDMI and streaming with ps3/xbox360)
Case: Bitfenix Prodigy mITX => 79.99 $CAD
Psu: Silverstone Strider Essential ST50F-ES 500W => 56.51 $CAD
Cpu: Intel Core i3 3225 => 94.69 $CAD
Cpu fan: Scythe Shuriken REV.B 3 Heatpipe => 34.99 $CAD
Motherboard: ASUS P8H77-I mITX => 94.69 $CAD
Memory: Kingston HyperX KHX1600C9D3K2/8GX (2x4Go) => 36.99 $CAD
Disk: OS (WHS 2011) ADATA AS510S3-120GM-C 120GB (SSD) => 78.87 $CAD
Data Western Digital 2TB Caviar Green SATA3 (x4 for RAID5) => 379.96 $CAD (94.99 $CAD / disk)
Dvd drive: Silverstone Slot Loading Slim DVD Combo Optical Drive => 63.81 $CAD
Card Reader: nGear Flash Card Reader 3.5in Internal => 5.20 $CAD
Wifi: ASUS USB-N53 Black Diamond => 34.99 $CAD
I would like to have your opinion on the current configuration that I look for my HTPC.
Thanks,
Christo.

I have a related, but less technical question.
Four month old HP laptop, 8GB of RAM, loads of hard drive space, i-5 processor, 25MB internet connection, etc.
This may sound a little naive, but is there a cable or other way to hook up my laptop to my TV so rather than viewing on a 15" screen I can watch full screen on my TV? I'm guessing the sound would be pretty lousy, but can this be done. Not just live streaming, but DVDs also (I mistakenly didn't order the BluRay option).

So are you trying to do an HTPC or a Network NAS running a media-streaming (DLNA) type server? Maybe I'm confused as to your target

If your laptop has an HDMI cable, you could just use that? Or perhaps I'm not understanding your question properly.
