Just curious what other people think of this topic. I think that the best line in a movie that I've heard is from "Unforgiven," when the Kid and Will have just shot the outlaws in the outhouse. They're waiting for the women to show up, and the Kid is drinking his whiskey under a tree.

WILL: It's a funny thing, killin' a man. You take away everything he has, and everything he's gonna have.

KID: Yeah... well I guess he had it comin'.

WILL: We ALL got it comin', kid.

That line is delivered to perfection, and it makes the hair stand up on my neck every time. Especially since Eastwood looks so much like Death himself. This is the best line to me, because I only had to hear it once and it stuck out so much that I always remembered it.

What are some of your other favourite lines?

One of my recent favorites was the line the Alien in Contact has when Ellie meets him:

That is one of the best lines to end a movie with, in my opinion.

My favorite line from my favorite movie:

Don't be so gloomy. After all it's not that awful. What the fella says, in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock. So long Holly.

If it was REALLY your favorite line, you'd know that it's "It's a helluva thing killin' a man," not, "it's a funny thing." ;)

another favorite this one from pulp fiction, one that most have heard and love :D

Vincent : And you know what they call a... a... a Quarter Pounder with Cheese in Paris?
Jules : They don't call it a Quarter Pounder with cheese?
Vincent : No man, they got the metric system. They wouldn't know what the fuck a Quarter Pounder is.
Jules : Then what do they call it?
Vincent : They call it a "Royale" with cheese.
Jules : A "Royale" with cheese. What do they call a Big Mac?
Vincent : Well, a Big Mac's a Big Mac, but they call it "le Big-Mac".
Jules : "Le Big-Mac". Ha ha ha ha. What do they call a Whopper?
Vincent : I dunno, I didn't go into Burger King.

"That piece is entitled "Mirror, Father, Mirror." I like to show it to people that I'm meeting for the first time because I feel it says so much about who I am and what it feels like to inhabit my specific skin."

"Well, if it isn't God's gift to the 8 year olds"

"That music was pretty white."

The opening line in Dreyfus' office in A Shot in the Dark:

Chief Dreyfus is speaking on the telephone... concluding with:

Dreyfus: "Honey, say hello to the children for me."
Secretary: "Chief, your wife is on the other line."

(sort of paraphrased... I don't have the DVD next to me)
