Once titans of the box-office, now even together for the first time in co-starring roles, Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger don’t make such a combustive coupling. Part of the problem is the kind of film that Mikael Hafstrom’s Escape Plan is: a puzzle thriller where bits and pieces of plot get combined to make a surprise end product. With Stallone somewhat miscast and some inappropriate slam bang action thrown in at the last minute for fans of the stars, the film doesn’t always seem to be on solid ground despite some undoubtedly clever ideas and some very engrossing sequences.
