In general, will a player remember all the settings if you unplug it from the electrical outlet? I remember my receiver would keep settings for some hours if it had no electricity, but I'm wondering if DVD players have something similiar.

Depends on the player. My old Panasonic A300U kept it's settings for weeks and so did my Sony. Certainly for a few hours, most players should retain their settings. When I moved my gear around recently, everything kept their settings also.
