One of the truly great character actors since the dawn of television. Knotts was truly one of a kind. I remember him from Andy Griffith repeats; I remember him from Pleasantville - to have that kind of timeline is a hell of a job.

Don Knotts was perhaps TV's all time best second banana in terms of sitcoms. If there was someone else better, I can't think of him/her right now. His work as Ralph Furley is an unheralded classic.

As a Matlock fan, I was especially thrilled whenever he would show up as "Les Calhoun". Those moments of Andy/Don interacting as seniors were magical.

God Bless Him.

I'll grant that he was exceptional, but for me Art Carney as Ed Norton in The Honeymooners is the tops. I'd put Don Knotts as a very close second though.

R.I.P. Don. But if any good came out of this, it finally prompted me to open up and start watching my "Three's Company" Season 4 (His debut season) set. Not that I wasn't looking forward to watching it, I just have a huge backlog.
