Will a stock CLD-D503 player do this? (as in without the mods I've overheard you guys talking about) Thanks.

Billy, it will pass DTS 5.1 out it's optical output. That model is from the year before AC-3 (DD) was released in the U.S., 1994 to be exact. It's nearly identical replacement in 1995, the CLD-D504 droped the optical but gained the AC-3 out. If you need both go to models like the CLD-D604, CLD-59, CLD-D606, or better yet the CLD-D704. Best wishes from Laserland!

The CLD-D503 has no digital output (coaxial or optical).
