Does the D-VHS recorder act as a tuner/STB? (1 Viewer)

I know that the only current way to record high-def material is through one of these high-def VCR's. They tell me you just stick up an antenna and record away.

But does the D-VHS VCR eliminate the need for a STB? Or is a STB up-stream feeding the VCR the decoded signal?

I was looking at the Mitsubishi or JVC units.

You have to have a stand alone receiver for OTA, in my case I have the Samsung SIR-T165 firewire receiver feeding my JVC
firewire recorder. The Samsung controls the JVC DVR, although in the Dalla/Fort Worth area the stations don't adhere to the "PSIP" standards and all of the times the Samsung receives are off. You can only do oned timed recording.

Actually two of the stations, 21 and 33 do have the right times.
