Does any HD player offer upconversion over Component? (1 Viewer)

It's all because of stupid lawyers putting in language in the licenses w/o truly understanding the technical details behind it. I think some erroneously had the idea that allowing HD component out from a player magically creates HD resolution & potential for higher quality copies. While in reality scaling can only really harm an image, and any real pirate is just going for the straight digital bit-for-bit copy since DVD has long been cracked.

Anyway, I wouldn't go through all the trouble of trying to copy discs & such if you only have component video. Remember that when upconverting, all you are really doing is using the scaler in the DVD player rather than the one in the TV. If your TV's scaler is any good any change will be marginal, and could actually be worse. And if you have a CRT based set w/ a native 480p mode, it's often arguably better to watch native. (Upscaling would obscure scanlines, but also soften the picture).
