I walk fast. It's not that I am in a hurry or anything, it's just that I walk faster than most people. I end up passing people wherever I am. In the mall, grocery store, wherever.

So, I always end up walking real fast behind someone, slow down quickly and then pass them. I get a little concious of it since I think the people I pass must be saying to themselves "What's his hurry?" or "That was rude" or "What's the matter, I don't walk fast enough for you?"

Part of the problem is that I am 6'4" and cover ground pretty quickly. Does anyone else have this "problem"? I don't drive like this.

LOL, I have the exact same problem (and it doesn't help that I'm 6'2") It drives my wife nuts when we're out walking around or shopping. I'm not doing it on purpose, it just happens to be the speed I feel comfortable walking at.

I am also a fast walker. In fact, I was just thinking about this today while in Costco. I kept getting stuck behind slowpokes. Most of my friends can't keep up with me. I prefer shopping by myself, as I don't like to lolly-gag. Zip, zip, zip. I get very frustrated by people who fart around (not one of my best qualities). I have long legs which helps.

I'm the exact opposite. At 5'0", I can only move my legs so fast before it's uncomfortable. Most people think my normal pace is just too slow.

I don't drive, so I've gotten into the habit of walking at a fast clip. I've had to learn to slow down considerably when with the wife at the mall.

I don't mind the fast or slow walkers - I mind the people that stand (walk slow or zig-zag) in the middle of an aisle (talking, thinking, or just standing) oblivious to anyone around them or the fact that there are better places to do that than in a narrow aisle.

Makes me wish life were more like hockey...

Cool. I'm glad I'm not the only one. What got me thinking about it today was when I was walking through a casino on my way to a restaurant for lunch. It's just that at my normal pace, I feel like I am running over all of the old folks!

I'm 6'3", and I can't stand how slow everyone else seems to be walking. What's really frustrating is that my wife is just barely 5'. Even at my slowest (comfortably, non-exaggerated slow walk), I still walk faster than her.

I walk pretty fast shopping... I have direct goals...

If I see something that catches my eye, steer clear walkers or you will be going down... JK...

Seriously though, I really just go shopping myself most of the time unless it is for some occassion and someone else is paying...

I just dont have the patience to wait 2 and 3 hours in the same store in the same aisle for someone else...

I remember going in this very tiny store and being there for 4 hours while someone else with me looked at what seemed liked every single item there was...

I find shoppping seperately much easier... That way I can look at what I want and whoever else can look at what they want...

I understand if someone likes to take a lot of time shopping... It's more of a pleasure thing for them... Thats just not for me...

6'2" and yes I cover a lot more ground "walking" than others
do.. My dad for instance is short (seems like he's getting
shorter every year) and I have to stop and wait for him to
catch up to me.. Even though I am just "walking" just like
he is.. I am always goading him and saying he's slow..

He says "I can't help it my legs are short" and I say "Don't
get cranky with me.. Blame God for making your legs so short!"

:D

And yes I pass people in the mall, Walmart heck anywhere..
I feel like I am on Talledega...

Uh huh. I'm 6', but note that the average height in this country is a little less than in North America. So I do walk faster than most -- and this despite my slight limp.

I'm slightly less tolerant than Eric_L -- if you're a little old lady or elderly gent, fair enough you will walk quite slowly and I understand that. What irks me is a bunch of young people, whether kids, teens, or twenty-somethings, who walk in a group at an incredibly slow rate when talking/laughing/chatting amongst themselves in the middle of a busy thoroughfare. Or for that matter a young couple who insist on holding hands and walking side-by-side, blocking the rest of us. And before you think I'm being anal, also note that this being a tiny country and land being very costly, the shopping centres have relatively narrow passages -- and this is not my imagination, just this weekend I was in Kuala Lumpur and their new shopping centres are just so spacious compared to ours.

I always have people asking me why I'm in a hurry. I just don't like meandering along at a slow pace.

I don't mind slow walkers as long as they give you room to walk past them. I HATE the groups of 3+ people who walk really slow/side by side and you can't get around them! :frowning:I see I'm not alone :D

I know I'm not perfect, but I try to stay out of the way of others when I'm going slow.

I have the same problem (7'1") I can walk from one end of the World's largest mall to the other eat lunch and then walk back in under 30 minutes. Most of the time I am in a hurry though.

Walking fast has nothing to do with height. I've know people who are well under six feet tall that simply walk fast. Of course I've also know plenty of six feet and taller people who walk like snails.

I myself am a very fast walker. It's just that I generally know where I want to go and "life is too short" to waste time getting there. (That's a little joke inspired by another thread.)

I am definitely a "fast walker". Always catching myself and slowing down for whomever I happen to be walking with.

Slight variation on the pet peeve themes from above:

Walking (fast of course) throught the airport, come up to the moving sidewalk (oh boy I can walk faster!) start cranking and you come upon somebody who doesn't understand the "Stand on the right, walk on the left" concept. Doh!!

I can be a fast walker although it depends on the situation.

If I'm in a public place with women, my fast "transportation" walk turns into more of a slower paced "strut" :). When I'm late for class, my walk becomes a high speed stride that could do a 10 minute mile which can get tiring pretty fast.

I am however usually passing people because I'm in a hurry (got things to do)

But say there's girls... Then I take it slower... my walk becomes more graceful and effortless and I don't slouch, but I walk with pride as if girls wanted me. I do not seem rushed in anway yet I do not seem like I am stalling or wasting time. It isn't exactly Travolta strutting, but simply a passive aggressive modeling motion you gotta see. :D

This body language can get the most eye contact and attention while if I wanted to be left alone I walk with a slouch head towards the ground stepping somewhat swiftly.

Ladies dig a walk with confidence, and long strides. Slouching, inconfident walks with short or quick steps are a don't.

I learned this from a guy in High school that had all the girls. He was only 5'2" yet he walked with excellent posture (chest out, shoulders back confident style) and used body language that made him look like he was 6 feet tall. It's amazing how much you can tell about someone from just the way they walk.
