Not a Magnolia fan, but I loved Boogie Nights, um I was going to post an infamous Tom Cruise quote from Magnolia but had second thoughts. :D

Here's What I've Seen:

Couch (2003): *** (Insane short, but works because of its payoff)

Punch-Drunk Love (2002): **** (My favorite film)

Magnolia (1999): **** (Depressing, but excellent all the same)

Boogie Nights (1997): ***1/2 (Highly entertaining, but lacks the emotional punch of Magnolia and Punch-Drunk Love)

Sydney (1996): *** (Also known as Hard Eight; the weakest of all of his feature-length movies, but it's still good)

My rankings:

1.Punch-Drunk Love (2002): **** (Own the DVD)

2.Magnolia (1999): **** (Own the DVD)

3.Boogie Nights (1997): ***1/2 (Own the DVD)

4.Sydney (Hard Eight)(1996): *** (Own the DVD)

5.Couch (2003): ***

I hated Magnolia so much that I wasn't sure I wanted to see Punch Drunk Love.
The later was pretty good (a "B"), but I still will never get over losing 3 hours of my life watching Magnolia!
(yes, I know I am in the minority on this one)

I'm not so sure you are in the minority there, Rob. Magnolia is one of those Love/Hate things.
Out of :star::star::star::star::star:
Punch-Drunk Love :star::star::star::star:3/4 - A close shave to a 5. There is so much that is just "right" with this film. A wonderful testament to those who are willing to admit they are not only not perfect, but often downright screwed up.
Magnolia :star::star::star::star::star: - Was it Brook who recommended this to me a couple years ago? Like I said to Rob, this is a Love/Hate movie. Personally, I love the aspect it represents that in the end you rarely "get away" with anything. If more people adopted that philosophy, it would be a genuinely better world.
Boogie Nights :star::star::star: - Interesting twist on a true story, but not all it has been boilt up to be.
I want to point out that I think Anderson's video of Fiona Apple's cover of the Beatle tune, Into the Universe is a rare video that is actually quite good.

Not sure what to make of this, except perhaps NOT to watch anything that Brook recommends?!
Seriously though, all I want to know is WTF is up with the FROGS?!?! :rolleyes

Look at the opening sequence. So much of what happens in this movie has to do with how incredibly "implausible" things happen every day.

Rob, if you google for 'Magnolia frogs' you will find a few links that offer some interpretations. Some of the most popular ideas involve:

Biblical plague

Improbability
