What happened to him eh? He should have been one of the greats and it all went pear-shaped with the absurdly overbudget and neverending Heaven's Gate debacle, the film cost more than the budgets of both Star Wars IV and V added together, and along with the even more expensive Raise the Titanic was one of the biggest movie flops ever at that time.

Rankings

1)The Deer Hunter
2)Year of the Dragon
3)Thunderbolt and Lightfoot

I consider The Deer Hunter the third best war film ever made, behind Paths of Glory and Apocalypse Now. I will get around to seeing more of Cimino's films some day.
