    In order of merit:

    1.Zulu (1964) ***
    2.Mysterious Island (1961) ***
3.De Sade (1969) **1/2 - it should have been better, yes, but it's not quite as bad as it's reputed to be[IMG]

I'm interested in watching THE UNDERWORLD STORY (1950), THE SOUND OF FURY (1951) and HELL DRIVERS (1957).

Sands of the Kalahari is getting a Blu-ray release through Olive Films next month. I never heard of the film until I got an email from a local shop this morning announcing the release and in the description it says "survival film about a plane crash in the jungle" and likens it to Flight of the Phoenix, which I love. What is the general consensus here - is the film any good?

Luis, Sands of the Kalahari is pretty good and worth a watch. I'd also liken it somewhat to Flight of the Phoenix (of course) but it's got more in common with The Naked Prey.

BTW the plane crash and story takes place in the Kalahari desert (not a jungle). If you like character driven adventure films from the same period (Zulu, Flight, Naked Prey, etc) chances are you'll also like Sands. It's also the best damn film featuring killer baboons you're ever likely ever see.

Didn't know about the Blu-ray until you mentioned it. That's going on my shopping list for sure.

Thanks, Jim - definite buy for me, then. I''ll look into Naked Prey and grab a copy (if it's available, that is). EDIT: Just found out there's a 2008 Criterion DVD available. The question now is, do I wait for a (possible) Blu release or should I just grab this now. $35 is a bit steep for a 3-year-old DVD.

Luis, If you're set on buying it Barnes and Noble is running a 50% off sale on all Criterion titles so you can get it for $20

Personally if I were in your shoes I'd wait for the blu-ray and just rent the DVD from Netflix, Blockbuster or borrow from your Library if any of those are options. I only blind buy if I have no other options or I find an insanely good deal on something, but that's me.
