Just started with first HDTV (Toshiba 65HX81). Have Toshiba DST3000 stb on order. Already have Direct TV via an 18" dish and have a spare 18" that I could use to point at the 2nd satellite to receive the HDTV channels from Direct TV. Any reason that I shouldn't do it this way rather than shelling out $130+ for an elliptical? If ok, what other hardware is needed and how do I do I do it? Perhaps someone can point me to a website that already addresses this issue. Thanks.

Two dishes work better than the larger single dish since you can fine tune them individually. All you need is a multiswitch to combine the signals. This one is a little more expensive since in includes an input for an OTA antenna. There are other models but I don't have time to search for them.

The only other to think about is the elliptical dish to set up to also receive from the bird at 110 if they start using it. If they start using that satellite you would need a third. Doesn't see too likely anytime soon however.
