I wish they'd have a segment on the marketing and merchandising of the films -- you know, old toy commercials; publicity people talking about how Raiders was promoted; showing the merchandise based on Indiana Jones, stuff like that. That would be really interesting, at least to me, as a slice of cultural history.

Also, if any movies should have an isolated-score track, it should be these movies, given how much music there is and how important it is.

This is a big release. I want several discs of 'shovelware'. Quality is irrelevant, I buy my supplements by the pound. Despite not having seen these documentaries myself, I know that I will be disappointed.

:rolleyes

the length of these making of sound about right, a shame that for each sequel, timewise they are less

As someone who will probably watch the supplements first (and always has, even with laserdisc)...yeah, this is complete BS. For the wait, these certainly aren't raising the bar in any particular way. And they're pretty thin. So yeah...it's disappointing. And the exclusion of all the documentaries is as well. I would EASILY shell out $100+ for a complete set.

OH well...their loss. Just means I have to find the laserdiscs and make DVD copies.

Craig, I think you missed the part where Michael was being sarcastic.

Granted, the more goodies, the happier I'll be, but the fact that these movies are FINALLY coming out AT ALL is enough for me to own 'em.

Just gimme a clean image and some kick-butt sound. Everything else is gravy. :D

With all the complaining that goes on with every major release, it's a wonder that films even get put on DVD at all...

99% of the time I'm embarrassed at Joe Sixpack's existence, demanding pan-n-scan, et al. 1% of the time I'm embarrassed to be "us" who complain and nitpick over every...single...thing...

Even without having seen one bit of the product...

Nope. Totally got it. He's mocking the people like me who are complaining about the extras. Not that funny but ok. Paramount drops another ball. Not surprising at this point.

But they're lucky. These movies are perfection. But as per usual with Paramount, the release is nothing special and they deserve a helluva lot better than 1 lousy disc of extras.

I'm complaining because there's material that is DONE. It's a GIVEN. And yet it's still not on there. I will be happy with what we do get...but it's so painfully obvious what is sorely missed.
Yeah but you haven't seen the actual DVDs have you? You're only going by what's been posted on the Web...but I guess we know that Web info is as good as seeing on TV...100% accurate.

You're already accusing Paramount of dropping the ball, there's already accusations flying at Lucas for making the set drop DTS and a grand conspiracy theory is just short of forming (though it probably already has in some peoples' minds).

And have any of you seen the PRODUCT? The actual Indy DVDs?

All I have to about this endless debate about supplements on the Indy discs is please read this post by Robert A. Harris. While it is concerned quite a bit with disappointment over features/specs announced but not ending up on the final product (in response to my post just above it, and mentioning my name twice as a result), it also explains as a generality why specs/features - whether or not they were ever announced - can't make it onto every release. There is a lot of wisdom in this post, most of it bourne of Mr. Harris' experiences in that industry. Give it a read and think about it, okay?

And again, I'll be pleased with as much as Paramount can give me on this release. If there's any disappointment over something not present that I wish was there, I'll politely say so and move on. And quietly decide whether or not I'll buy the disc. After all, that's a personal decision we each make. No use raining on someone's parade who's looking forward to this release.

But, just to be clear, I'll definately be buying the Indy set.

Hello?? Anyone home???

I Don't have to SEE the discs to know that the material already released will NOT be on there. Thus, it results in disappointment.

Mcfly?? Anyone home?

It's something to get used to I guess. The Godfather boxed set was a big disappointment as well (can you say Paramount?). Seems like the only movies that get very good boxed sets are the ones that are recent releases...although the BTTF boxed set looks good. Too bad I didn't really care for the other two.

Could not have said it better myself.
Yah...but that post has very little to do with this thread.

That's talking about the movie itself and what can fit on it.

I could be selfish but I would think that the Indiana Jones movies deserve and extra disc EACH. I'm stoked about the Alien release ONLY because they're finally treating what MANY people regard as a fantastic film quadrilogy with the respect it deserves. As the case stands today, Indy and the Godfather were opportunities that were missed by miles.

In the case of Dolly, as can be read in this thread, there are members who won't go near this release for any number of reasons. My comments had little to do with the actual film and more to do with the quality of the release, which is a key to future large format releases.

This will not be a million seller. The price point has been hit to perfection, making it almost a POP release.

Likewise with All That Jazz. It hits a price point of just over ten dollars, making it accessible to everyone. But as good a film as it is, and it is a fine film, it will not be to everyone's taste.

Which means that neither of these films is a candidate for a two disc set and a higher price point.
The key element I'm pointing to is "The price point has been hit to perfection". Paramount, and every other studio, plays a balancing act as to including all the features that the die-hards want, and getting the release down to a mass-market package that they feel will sell best.

The correct answer isn't always the E.T. and LotR route of two versions. Especially when you know that you'll be revisiting a property later...say, right after a sequel hits? :D

If you want to wait for the inevitable down-the-road package, then be my guest. However, a bird in the hand...

As I said...I'm not waiting. As someone who has bought the Star Wars trilogy about 7 or 8 times on vhs/laser and DVD already, I don't care about double dipping. I'm mostly planning on the sequel never happening because I really don't want to see it. I just think it'll be utter crap.

But again, no guarantees that it will be revisited. Paramount isn't known for it. True, their other movie franchise "star trek" is an exception but they'll always have the wackos who will buy everything and anything. Indy has more of a niche.

Again...I WILL BE BUYING it from whoever in NYC sells it first. Don't get me wrong. I'm THRILLED that it's coming out. I'm just EXTREMELY disappointed with the content of the extras with the EXCLUSION of the many documentaries. Regardless of what IS on the discs, we know that it won't be the great material that is already on there.

Yeah this sounds very unpleasant:

Exclusive DVD-ROM content - Each of your Indiana Jones DVDs has the ability to unlock exclusive Indiana Jones content available only through a special DVD-ROM Web site. In addition, you can link to Indianajones.com (the official site for Indiana Jones fans) and check out the daily features and updates on Indiana Jones 4.

What a crap-fest!

This release is four months away and people are already criticising it...

A special collector's set need not contain everything ever shot or talked about that pertains to the series of films... that would be prohibitively expensive. It needs to have balance between content, quality, and price.

Sure, SOME of you may be willing to drop $100 on the trilogy to have all the extras possible, but MOST people are going to want to keep the trilogy price well under $70. Paramount would be making a HUGE mistake releasing a $100 trilogy.

And dissing the sequel before the script is even finished??? What the heck is up with that?

With that attitude, you won't go away happy, no matter what happens.

Wait till you've seen and heard the discs... then crap on it all you want.

Sheesh.
