TROY, Mich., June 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Delphi Corp. , America’s leading satellite radio manufacturer with more than 5 million receivers sold, announced today that the Delphi XM Signal Repeater is now available -- the first system that wirelessly rebroadcasts the XM satellite signal throughout the home.

"The launch of the Delphi XM Signal Repeater is fantastic news for satellite radio consumers -- it is a great way to get XM satellite radio throughout your home, eliminating the need for some listeners to use long antenna extensions," said Joseph A. Damato, director, consumer electronics, Delphi Product & Service Solutions. "In addition, it offers multiple radio households the ability to share the same XM antenna and signal. As a result of this enabling technology, Delphi expects the application of indoor satellite radio to grow to new levels."

Innovatively designed, the system includes both a transmitter and a repeater antenna. The transmitter rebroadcasts the signal from any XM home antenna up to 75 feet, even through walls and floors. While in range, one or more repeater antennas can acquire and convert the signal just like the home antenna for any XM radio.

The Signal Repeater is easy to install and with its sleek design integrates into the home environment. It is compatible with Delphi’s complete line-up of satellite radio receivers, home kits and audio systems, which includes the MyFi, Roady and SKYFi family of products.

The Delphi XM Signal Repeater will be available at major consumer electronics stores and through http://www.shopdelphi.com/ for $169 MSRP, with additional repeater antennas at $69 MSRP each.

Delphi has sold more than 5 million satellite radio receivers including both OE and retail units. Delphi was the first company to integrate a radio into the dashboard in 1936, the first to bring satellite radio to the vehicle in 2001 and the first to bring a portable satellite radio boom box to the market in 2002. Delphi has a broad portfolio of products to answer a wide variety of information and entertainment needs.

For more information about Delphi and its subsidiaries, visit Delphi’s media room at http://www.delphi.com/media .

Note: Satellite reception depends on the ability of the antenna to receive a signal. The signal may not be available in buildings or if obstructed (e.g. by mountains, trees, bridges, etc.)

Is it just me or in terms of hardware that Sirius comes up short?

After looking over the programming lists of both services I think I would like Sirius programming better however without the hardware that XM has it just seems tough to take the plunge.

I mainly would like this for work but I work in a place that would require a repeater to get the signal to where I would need it.

Sirius is horribly behind XM in hardware.

This accounts for the reason why XM keeps
ahead of Sirius in overall subscribers.

You look at XM and Sirius technology and
you quickly see that XM's equipment is
consistently sleeker and more practical
than what the competition offers.

As far as content is concerned, I'll give
Sirius the edge on signing up big names when
it comes to entertainment.

However, when you get right down to the MUSIC
that you listen to day in and day out, XM still
plays the widest variety of music with less
repeats.

It's all about where your priorities lie as
to which service you pick.

True, but until the Audiovox XR-7, Sirius had the better displays. The display on Sirius' car tuner from Audiovox was better than the Sony PnP and the Roady 2 my wife has.
