THE UNINVITED  - BD & DVD Editions
A pair of siblings (Ministry of Fear’s Ray Milland and The Philadelphia Story’s Ruth Hussey) from London purchase a surprisingly affordable, lonely cliff-top house in Cornwall, only to discover that it actually carries a ghostly price; soon they’re caught up in a bizarre romantic triangle from beyond the grave. Rich in atmosphere, The Uninvited, directed by Lewis Allen (Suddenly), was groundbreaking for the seriousness with which it treated the haunted-house genre, and it remains an elegant and eerie experience, featuring a classic score by Victor Young (Written on the Wind). A tragic family past, a mysteriously locked room, cold chills, bumps in the night—this gothic Hollywood classic has it all.

I'm definitely looking forward to picking this up, in spite of the underwhelming slate of special features. I've caught this nearly every time it came on TCM since I first saw it a couple of years ago.

I watched the UK DVD of this great film about two months ago. I will buy this BD as soon as possible which will allow me to watch my two favorite ghost stories before Halloween. The Haunting the week of the 15th followed by The Uninvited the following week.

Shame on me - it was only recently that I ever even heard of this film, and I'm a big fan of Dead of Night, The Innocents and The Haunting.

I suppose that makes it a must buy.

Well, at the $39.99 price point one would have expected a lot more - other recent bare-bones releases from Criterion, such as Jubal and Ministry of Fear, were $29.99.

I agree that it is pricey considering the paucity of special features. Still, it is a must-have for me.

It has been many years since I last saw TU, but is there anything remotely like that image in the movie? The cover is certainly striking, but I don't know that it quite fits the film contained in the box.

I was hoping for at least an interview or commentary with either Martin Scorsese or Guillermo Del Toro - both of whom have praised the film highly - and an isolated score track that showcases Victor Young's lovely music. But I guess beggars can't be choosers, though.

Beyond a must have, for me it is a dream come true. What a glorious surprise and what a class move by Criterion. For its die hard fans, THE UNINVITED is the top of its genre, an elegant and atmospheric supernatural tale that is one of a kind. This is the best news I've heard all year!

And, when all else fails, throw in a semi-appropriate bonus movie supplement. Hey, It worked for The Killing and The Lady Vanishes.

It would be nice, but let's remember these filmmakers have their own projects they're working on.

It's been awhile since I've seen the film as well, but I was thinking the same thing. I thought I had the wrong film for a second!

An isolated score would have been lovely.
