-Picnic at Hanging Rock
-Red River
-Scanners
-A Brighter Summer Day
-A Raisin in the Sun
-Riot in Cell Block 11
-Jacques Demy Films (Umbrellas of Cherbourg, Bay of Angels, Lola, Donkey Skin)
Those seem to be the most likely answers included.

The ones I'm less sure about:

-Angel with a bell: Could be It's a Wonderful LIfe (though a bit.....unnecessary) or Only Angels Have Wings. Possibly another movie that refers to angels and/or bells.
-Man in a box: Could be a Hulot box set, but could be referring to someone else
-Band/dancing: Pretty broad array of movies this could cover. The band and dancers appear to be Jazz or Big Band age.
-Deer's head poking out of a bush: No idea
-Four bugs: No idea. This seems to be its own clue, and not just an added reference to the "picnic" clue
-Middle and far right picnicker: No clue about these. The right side picnicker appears to be a caveman or disheveled man, but the details are hard to make out. What does the middle person have around his neck? What is the bleeding object in the center?
-Garlic: Could be the Les Blank documentary, could be something else.

The "four bugs" are the Beatles, no?
Deer=DEER HUNTER? Already on Blu, redone with new extras?
"Caveman": QUEST FOR FIRE? :)

Could any of those angels be a reference to Matter of Life and Death?
I've recently discovered The Archers, and I'm really anxious to see this movie.

Could the band and dancers mean The Party?
Good suggestion and one I would go for, but I immediately thought of Thoroughly Modern Millie. Not sure why except the jazz dancers.

At first I thought the angel carrying a bell meant an upgrade of The Exterminating Angel but nobody else has mentioned the possibility.

A Criterion Hard Day's Night would be great.
As for Hulot, I have all the BFI issues so the only one I'm really after now is the original B & W version of Jour de Fete, which the BFI didn't have recourse to, giving us the differently-edited strange colour version instead, and a much later revised B & W version which I've never cared for.
I did hear the French were prepping this original version, but their results in transfers of historic material have been problematic and I hope that if Criterion gives us this, they won't have to rely on French restoration/transfer efforts.

The tootsie rolls at the picnic are for Tootsie. It's A Wonderful Life is not superfluous. It was one of the original Criterion Lasers (As was Hard Day's Night) and they have an exclusive commentary track.

I've heard speculation that the angel over the ocean is Breaking the Waves.

Interesting thought re Tootsie.

There is bonus material that was not included in the Blu-ray I reviewed of The Deer Hunter last year. It is possible that Criterion either acquired this material or has something else relating to it.

The only ones I saw right off were Red River and Scanners for obvious reasons.

i think A Hard Days Night is a pretty good guess, Giles Martin (son of Beatles producer George Martin) said last month via his twitter account that he was "working in 1964", then a few days later posted a timecoded image from the "And I Love Her" sequence from the film with the description "I've brought an old friend back to Twickenham Studios for some TLC".

this may all be a coincidence but seeing those 4 beetles in the new Criterion drawing made me think of A Hard Day's Night immediately.
