I will update the database, of course. I'm not ready now. The first update will be next month, and after that it will be regular.

Exactly. When I'll have my own movie database, the database will include any movie, even if not available in DVD, even if just in theaters. Then it will be perfect. As I said, it's probably 3 or 6 months from now...

Rolando, I see that you're a DVD Profiler fan. My program doesn't really compete with DVD Profiler, and I don't imagine that you would make the switch.

The way that I see things is that my program is so much easier that it could appeal to a (much) wider audience. Frankly, to use DVD Profiler, you must be some sort of a geek... I don't use it myself. I don't know how to express it: my program is more aimed at "common people".

Also, I think that it makes sense for a DVD Profiler user to use Coollector in parrallel. DVD Profiler has its own strength, and my program its own strengths too. The experience is really not the same at all.

What do you think ?

Right. But how often are you planning on releasing updates to users? With a precalculated database that you provide, users can't get that new disc data until you release an update.

In addition, have you asked CDUniverse for permission to use their data? :)

I still haven't spoken to anyone at CDuniverse. I became an affiliate simply by filling a form. I've been accepted, which means they've seen my site (they always make sure it's not a porn site). How would it be a problem for CDuniverse ? I send them customers... Their catalog is available on the web, I don't know, but many it's also distributed in paper form. My program is just another form, a brand new form, of their catalog.

If I qualify to receive the datafeed, and if you guarantee that you will only use it for your very personal use, well... I might give you a copy. I don't want any trouble with CDuniverse !!!!!!!

So is this for Region 1 DVD's only? I use DVDSpot.com and am very satisfied with it.
Just wondering since I own alot of Hong Kong films too. Not Region 1, Region 0 and 3.

You can manage any type of media: DVD from any region, VHS, BLU-RAY, HD-DVD, divx, whatever you want.

But if the current catalog, CDuniverse, doesn't have your film at all (whatever the media type), then _currently_ you can't add it. That will be fixed as soon as possible.
CDuniverse has many Hong Kong films, though, and I wouldn't be surprised if you could already input all your collection without problem.

And please remember that inputing your coollection is only 1 aspect of Coollector. Consider the fact that it's also an encyclopedia of movies, that you can superimpose your culture and tastes, manage your wishlist, see what's available in store, etc...

It's painless to install my program. Please give it a try and you'll decide.

Well I have not gotten a chance to check out your program yet but I look forward to it. Time is really short right now so it might not be until the week end.

Heck I have a few movies NOT on my DVDProfiler because I have not had time to enter :)

As for Profiler being for geeks I have to disagree. As a geek myself I am surprised by how simple and easy to use it is. Basically open it, click on add a DVD and enter the UPC code on the back of the case. Browsing through it is even simpler.

I want to ask though, if you feel I might want to have them both, is it because you find that your's is "missing" something in particular? Since it is linked to CDuniverse I assume it has disc info as well as movie info. They should be about the same in terms of data of collection right?

I am assuming the main difference is navigation and of course esthetics.

Well, I really envy their online service, so your friends can see your collection. I hope to add this feature in a not too distant future.

When I said that I doubted you would make the switch, it's because you're satisfied with DVD Profiler, and you have already inputed all your collection. When I look for persons to use my program, I mainly think of persons who've never had any interest for collection managers before. Anyway, I confess that I secretly hope that one day you'll feel compelled to make the move. Especially since DVD Profiler hasn't been maintained for more than a year now, and Intervocative despise their users (is Ken alive ? LOL).

Is it suppose to beep everytime I click something? I don't like that much. I was shocked that cduniverse does not carry some R1 titles I own like Half-shot at Sunrise. It seems that some triple feature discs like Here Comes Cookie / Love in Bloom / Six of a Kind are split up into individual entries but have no data beyond year and title. Meanwhile some boxsets like the Preston Sturges Collection and Looney Tunes Golden Collections are neither listed as whole nor as seperates. It would be nice to search for actor and also enter the full title or a part of a title without your word being cut off.

This is not to say this is unpleasant and I look forward to future updates. Hopefully some films not yet on DVD will wind up listed.

Hi Tori,

The beep sound is absolutely abnormal. There should only be a click sound when you click a button. Right now, I have no clue what's happening to you... Please give me more details. What is your system ? When precisely does it beep ?

Don't be shocked, Half-shot at Sunrise (1930) is in the database. The string search is about letters only (punctuations are discarded). You had to enter "half" and then "shot", and forget about the "-".

About "Here Comes Cookie / Love in Bloom / Six of a Kind", CDuniverse doesn't give any information. The years I even had to find myself. When I'll have my own encyclopedia, it will be possible to fill all the gaps.

CDuniverse has only 1 Preston Sturges Collection, it's "Preston Sturges: The Filmmaker Collection", a 10-pack you'll find easily by looking at Preston Sturges' filmography.

CDuniverse has "Looney Tunes Golden Collections" but I did not put it in this catalog, because it's a catalog of movies. I will put it in the catalog of series.

It's possible to search by actor: you simply missed the "panel focus", which is probably the only tricky thing about Coollector. It's explained at the beginning of the help file: the panel with the focus is the panel with the red corners. You can give a panel the focus by clicking on it (where it is possible) or, even better, by using the left or right arrow keys.

??? I don't understand.

Thank you very much :)

Of course there will be updates as soon as possible. The first one will be a little late, but after that it will be updated frequently.

The beep I get from coolector comes from my computer, not my speaker. This is the same type of beep I get when I turn my computer on. I have never experienced this sound outside of turning the system on. It happens anytime I click buttons like add, cancel, the buttons down the center like + and ?.

About Half-Shot, after the - didn't take, I searched for Hook Line & Sinker and then clicked the actor Bert Wheeler. Half Shot had no actor listings so from both of those occurences I wrongfully concluded it was not yet in.

About Preston, it is the Filmmakers Collection with the following 7 films:

The Great McGinty (1940)
Christmas in July (1940)
The Lady Eve (1941)
Sullivan's Travels (1941)
The Palm Beach Story (1942)
The Great Moment (1944)
Hail the Conquering Hero (1944)

I see now that they are all in but I also see that if I were typing The Palm Beach Story it would not come up but if I type Palm Beach Story it will. Some will be putting the word "the" down when searching for titles like The Thin Man, The Third Man, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I know some places make "The" a phantom word, not counting when typed or appearing before a word but appearing when viewed. If you can do this, then do it also with A and An for films like An Affair to Remember and A Time to Kill.

I was a little disturbed by trying to type a word that is not in the system like Diplomaniacs. Once I get to a point that does not match like Dipiloma, it fills in with the rest of a word in the sytem and will not let me type out the rest of the actual word, giving that beeping noise again. Ultimately this is unimportant as if it is not in there, why bother typing it all out.

Anyways, having listed things elsewhere for a time it might be easier for some just to copy and paste great amounts of properly spelled titles from another list one by one but to paste is not yet allowed in the search field.

When you get around to the Looney Tunes, please do not label them as television series as that will cause a great disturbance here since they are short films.

You're right, the entire pack is in CDuniverse. I did not find it because cast and crew is empty. Hopefully I'll soon build my own movie encyclopedia ;-)

CDuniverse tends to remove "the" from the titles. Me neither I don't like it, and I intend to keep them when I'll build my database.

Wow ! To me Looney Tunes were just TV cartoon series LOL
I intended to place them in the series catalog, with the genres "animation" and "TV". Is not good ?
