Thanks Andy. It sounds like a good thing to me. Hopefully, more manufacturers of TVs will pre-install it on there sets.

Sorry I got your birthday wrong. I thought it was on Saturday, but Phoebe told me it was on Sunday. Anyway, hope you had a good one!

Wow, for some reason I was subscribed to this thread, but it didn't notify me of responses. So I missed hooking up with anyone from the forum. Darn it! In any event I had a good time at the show, but missed all the parties.

INDEPENDENT AUDIT VERIFIES MORE THAN 126,000 INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS AT THE 2010 INTERNATIONAL CES World’s Largest Technology Tradeshow Posts Twelve Percent Attendance Growth Arlington, Va., May 11, 2010 – The 2010 International CES® today announced that 126,641 industry professionals attended the tradeshow’s four-day run in Las Vegas, Nevada, January 7-10, a 12 percent increase in CES attendance from the previous year. An independent audit of the 2010 International CES, performed by Veris Consulting LLC, confirms CES’ status as the world’s largest consumer technology tradeshow and North America’s largest annual tradeshow of any kind. Veris is certified by the Exhibition and Event Industry Audit Commission (EEIAC) to perform audits. As part of the Veris audit, each CES attendee is counted only once, and show size is calculated using only exhibit space actually sold, not hallways or bartered space. “The CES was overflowing with innovative new products, and this audit proves that the 2010 International CES successfully attracted top executives, retail buyers, content providers, entertainment executives, venture capitalists, engineers, government officials and media from every corner of the world,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®, producer of CES. “CES is also a must-attend global event as evidenced by our more than 24,000 international attendees.” 2,500 global companies, including a record 330 first time exhibitors, unveiled an estimated 20,000 new technology products across 1.4 million net square feet of exhibit space. More, 24,364 international attendees from 136 countries helped increase global attendance at CES by more than eight percent over last year. The top ten countries represented at CES are Canada, Korea, China, Japan, Mexico, United Kingdom, Taiwan, France, Brazil and Germany. Senior-level executives and business decision makers continue to conduct business at CES. According to the Veris audit, 45 percent of all attendees were senior level executives, director level and above, on par with last year. Presidents, CEOs and/or business owners made up 20 percent of attendees. More than one third of all attendees are the final decision makers when it comes to new product purchases and partnerships within their organizations. More than 8,400 attendees represented companies with more than $500 million in total annual sales, nearly double the previous year. The Veris audit also shows that CES attracts leaders from diverse business areas including entertainment, retail, education, engineering and venture capital. More than 12,000 retail buyers, 8,000 manufacturers and 3,000 engineers came to the 2010 CES along with more than 8,500 attendees from the software development/publishing, content development and entertainment industries, a 41 percent increase over last year. Top government officials also attended the 2010 International CES. Policymakers from the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate, the Department of Commerce, Federal Communications Commission (FCC), U.S. Department of Transportation and the U.S. Department of the Treasury were all present. Every year, influential media and analysts attend the CES to report on the cutting-edge technologies and trends in consumer technology. The 2010 CES drew more than 5,000 press, bloggers and financial and industry analysts. The CES audit provides absolute verification of exhibition records, including direct on-site observation, examination of registration systems and testing of attendee records. Post-show analysis included direct confirmation sampling, reconciliation of attendance lists, elimination of duplicate names and verification of demographic data with the source of documentation. Final audit numbers may differ from estimates given on-site due to additional badge pick-ups and badge reader reports. This audit complies with the industry standards for audits adopted by both the Exhibition and Event Industry Audit Commission (EEIAC) and the International Association of Exhibition and Events (IAEE). The 2011 International CES is scheduled to run January 6-9 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Just received this today from CEA. Attendance was up 12% from 2009 which is a good sign for the industry. When you're at the show though it can be hard to judge how many people are there. Some areas of the convention center looked like Death Valley and the more popular booths had a population density of Hong Kong. One simple way to judge is by the lines at the restrooms. If there's a long queue for the loo, it's a good show.

2011 International CES Launches New Mobile Apps Showdown

Winners of Most Innovative Mobile App To Be Announced at the 2011 CES in January

Arlington, VA July 7, 2010 –The International CES, the world’s largest consumer technology tradeshow, today announced the launch of a new Mobile Apps Showdown at the 2011 CES. Nominations for the competition are now open, and mobile application developers can submit entries to be judged by a panel of tech experts. Final round judging will take place live at the 2011 International CES, held January 6-9, 2011, in Las Vegas. The winner will be announced on January 8, 2011.

There are more than 185,000 mobile apps available that can help us do everything from finding restaurants to finding your parked car in a crowded shopping mall, said Robin Raskin, founder and President of Living in Digital Times, LLC. This exciting competition will give mobile app developers access to the world's largest technology platform, the International CES.

With Apple claiming over four billion app downloads, and with thousands of new applications available from Android, Blackberry, Nokia, and Palm's Web OS, the mobile app marketplace is expanding at a rapid pace.

The Mobile Apps Showdown, now in its second year at the International CES, will showcase the best and brightest stars in the industry. To enter the competition, visit www.MobileAppsShowdown.com.

How it Works

Nomination forms are available now. All entrants will be acknowledged with write-ups, screenshots and a Download Now button on the Mobile Apps Showdown website. (See www.mobileappsshowdown.com). From all the entries submitted, twenty-five semi-finalists will be selected by tech veteran Robin Raskin and a team of mobile experts. The online community will also have a chance to vote for their favorites.

The top ten finalists move on to a live demo competition in front of a live and online 2011 International CES audience and a winner will be declared based on an audience applause-o-meter and an online vote.

Winners will be picked from each of five platform categories: Android, Blackberry, iPhone, Nokia, and Palm Web OS. There will be a winner from the online voters as well as from the live audience vote at the Mobile Apps Showdown at 2011 CES.

Early submissions earn early bird savings and enhanced exposure on the Mobile Apps Showdown website, as well as other media opportunities. Enter before July 15, 2010 and the submission fee will be reduced from $1,000 to $800.

The Mobile Apps Showdown is an event by tech veteran Robin Raskin, who also created the extremely popular CES competition, Last Gadget Standing. In addition, Raskin and her company, Living in Digital Times, produce six CES-based TechZones and conference programs that feature technology and lifestyle, including technology for Health, Baby Boomers, Kids, Moms, Higher Education, and Sports and Fitness.

At the 2010 International CES, Clixtr won the live competition, while Gwabbit took home the online prize. Clixtr is a mobile app that turns smartphones into smartcameras. Its users create events, upload mobile photos, and create real-time event photo streams with the users around them. The online winner, Gwabbit, provides automatic email contact management (ECM) solutions for the contact cloud that automatically searches and identifies contacts embedded in emails and adds or updates that information to your information in a single click.

Rules of the competition.

1. You must submit your applications before Nov. 31, 2010.

2. Your application must be available to the public now or delivered by Q2 of 2011.

3. Semi-finalists (25) and finalists (10) are selected from among all entrants by a panel of journalists and experts from the Netshelter Technology Media network.

4. Semi-finalists and finalists will participate in an online vote, which will affect, but not necessarily determine, the winners. (Judges will have the final word and the votes need to be checked for duplicates.)

5. Only finalists - 10 in all - will present at the Mobile Apps Showdown live event at the 2011 Consumer Electronic Show. The winner of the live event will be selected by the live audience.

Just received this from CEA. If you have the smarts for this competition, jump right in!
