Hi,

I'm considering building a subwoofer this summer and would like to save myself some money and power it with an Onkyo TX-8511 stereo receiver I have laying around. Its a 100x2 watt receiver, but I don't know if I can bridge that power. I wouldn't be cranking it up to high, but I don't want to make any mistakes by hooking things up improperly. Can I bridge the power on this receiver? If so, how should I hook it up?

Oh good! Another TX-8511 owner! ...Ummm... I would not
recommend you even think about bridging a stereo receiver
of any kind. I did once and I got sparks and smoke (it
was a cheap receiver). Although, it's worth a try when it
comes to the TX-8511, because it will probably shut down
before any damage is caused. Even my old Technics SA-EX110
had the automatic protection circuitry... But still, I don't
recommend bridging a stereo receiver... Maybe a power amp.
Even if you bridge the inputs as well as the outputs you can
cause unexpected damage and excessive heat, and it can often
be a fire hazard. I learned the hard way with an old modified
JVC stereo receiver.

You don't need to bridge the power. Just get yourself a dvc driver and run one channel to each voice coil. You'll get 200 watts out of it, which is pretty close to the pe250.
