>You get 250MB a month, 20GB of cloud storage and a $10 appstore credit, all for $50 a year!
Yeah, that's going to be attractive to a lot of people

Who is the 4G carrier, and is it 4G only or dual 3G/4G?

Unless it's Verizon, good luck getting service.

Here's the thing: they're hitting the same pricepoints as Apple. And frankly for $499, I'd get the iPad over the Kindle Fire HD.

i crap bigger than 250MB a month =p #cityslickers

See, I may be vastly thinking about this wrong; but with Whispernet handling any purchases from Amazon as well as their game/book/audiobook network, the only other thing I need is email. And 250Mb a month is big enough for that; if I'm worried about streaming non-Amazon video or whatever, then I'd probably be somewhere where I have WiFi

Depending on the 4G carrier they're using, you may not be able to use any of that 250MB.

EDIT: it's AT&T. Practically useless.

Sleeper feature they skipped over: MULTIPLE USER PROFILES via Free Time. Great! now everyone gets their own high score and doesn't mess with mine =)
This is actually the one feature that I thought was really innovative. And they seemed to have buried it in the presentation.

The comparison is specious, in a way. If you wanted a 4G iPad, you would get more than 250MB/month. Yet with the Fire HD, that's all you get. So it's a really, really keecapped 4G, more like an emergency 4G than real 4G.

Also, hasn't been made clear if it's 3G/4G and not just 4G. If there isn't a 3G radio, you'll likely get zero data.

According to The Verge, there are as yet undetailed 3GB and 5GB plan upgrades.

Someone pointed out that 250MB/mo works out to a mere 3GB a year, which is actually not that big a bargain for $50.

Paperwhite, Charger and Leather case ordered for me.
7" HD, Charger and Leather case ordered for nephew.
Note that the price for the paperwhite is the Ad supported one. Without ads add $20. I like the ads, no worries there.
You can also bump the storage to 32 on the 7" and to 32 and 64 on the 8.9 for additional fees.

I had not considered that part of it, thanks. So if I download an 8gb game from Amazon that is covered? Or is it capped at 20mb over modem like iOS is?

In the end, the prices for what are ad supported tablets that still don't touch the iPad in terms of dpi and functionality and are still lacking in comparison to the UI and flexibility of a Jellybean tablet like the Nexus 7. I'd much rather wait for my Transformer Prime to get Jellybean than get an Amazon tablet. I really thought they were going to cream Apple and Google on price, but instead they stuffed so much extraneous hardware into them that they priced themselves too high. I seriously can't see anyone getting an Amazon tablet over an iPad at the same price. I would never make that recommendation to anyone.

Well, since they say Whispernet is on the non-4G device, and it covers games/etc. I can't figure out how they'd offer that kind of advantage to a non-4G model they won't to a 4G model.. that wouldn't make sense

Amend: there is no way it could be capped at 20Mb. If it were, nothing from Audible would play at all
