Are there any episodes of Buck Rogers available on DVD? No not the Buster Crabbe variety, I mean the late 70's Gil Gerard, "biddibiddibiddi" sort.

If not, are there any plans to eventually bring this old sci-fi series to DVD?

Possibly if Battlestar Galatica does well. It's on the "in consideration" list

Man I would love me some late 70's Buck Rogers on DVD, especially the movie. The intro was cut down but originally the opening titles had Buck basically making out with different chicks, kissing them while almost lying on top of them. I remember seeing it on HBO waaay back when in '80 or '81 and never saw it again because I guess they thought the original intro was too sexually orientated so they cut it. It gave new meaning to the name "Buck Rogers". Actually it didn't, but I thought I'd include that bit to round off this paragraph.

Edit: No wait I changed my mind. The original intro did give new meaning to the name "Buck Rogers" or else I wouldn't be remembering it from having seen it would I?

Indeed! [IMG] I remember having a small Twiki action fig back in around 1980.

Sci-Fi.com has a pretty naff BR section with hi-res pics. If this show were on DVD for about 10 bucks(no pun intended) for 2 or 3 shows it would be cool.

I dunno if I'd watch them all the time (until I try'em again after a loooong time), but I think I'd definitely buy reasonably priced season sets of Buck Rogers. Was one of the first TV shows I liked.

Wish SF was still prime time.

Ted, I feel the same way. I mean I like Battlestar Galactica a tad, but I wouldn't buy a DVD. So if that's supposed to be any indicator of whether Buck Rogers will make it to DVD depending on Galactica sales then I could be in for a long wait. I was never as big a fan as Galactica as I was Buck Rogers. BR was charming and fun, Galactica tried too damn hard.

    Space babe alert!

I'd want the Buck Roger episode which guest starred Jamie Lee Curtis, but probably not the whole series.

And the intro of the original film version wasn't really of Buck making out with women, it was of scantily clad women rolling around the giant illuminated words, "BUCK ROGERS," in a sort of low-budger James Bond type of opening montage.

If they do release the show, they'll have to decide what version of the original film they want to release, as they had some different scenes (some scenes, such as Buck's tour of his new apartment, were added to the tv version to set up the series, and some scenes were cut, too). I'd prefer the film version, as the "new" footage was pretty clearly shot at a different time.

Ok but put Buck Rogers of the late 70's/early 80's in perspective. It wasn't trying to be as smart as Star Trek and wasn't going for the epic wannabe-Star Wars-esque scope that Galactica was attempting to reach even though it might have given that impression at first. We're talking space disco vampires and little female gold robot that said, "bootybootybooty". [IMG] So the idea that it suddenly went downhill is like thinking that it actually aspired to reach or promise to show us some grand sci-fi classic on another level. IMO it wasn't a show to be taken very seriously and it was mostly camp, but for me that was part of its charm.

And that space vampire was my favorite episode.

I would buy both of these (BR and BG) on DVD in a minute...
