Have you seen the "Just call me 'Thread Killer.'"
Need I say more? ;)
It is like a fungal growth that wont go away.

IBTL!? If a mod was going to close this thread, he would have done it already. This thread is about fun, keep it clean and breezy, and there's no reason for it to get closed.
Please stop saying that term, it's kind of annoying to tell you the truth guys.
Great horror stories BTW. :emoji_thumbsup: I like the 'Bash Blockbusters' thread, very entertaining to read. Except for the 'Titanic' bashing. ;)

There was a thread a while back in after hours that started with a simple question on why the US uses imperial measurements over metric that got ugly. Reminded me of a great piece of advice I was given once "Brain in gear before mouth in motion".

I have no idea why threads get locked around here.

There was that thread I started where I said that DTS sounds better than Dolby Digital, but only if you use expensive interconnects AND I said that Super35 is a better film format because you can release the movie on DVD without those "damn black bars" AND I said that Batman and Robin was the epitome of superhero movies and the height of late 90s cinema AND I said that Bose produces the highest quality speakers and provides extreme value. Unfortunately, I also asked if anybody else loved Jar Jar Binks and the thread got locked down because I was overloading the forum with Star Wars threads. :D
Just kidding, of course!

I once mistook a moderator's humorous reference to another conversation in another thread as an unfair attack on a forum member and made a stink about it in the feedback section. I felt pretty ashamed when I learned what was really going on and that I'd spoiled everybody's fun. I was a newbie (though a longtime lurker), and Ron and Parker were more than gracious with me.

I had to wash their cars only four times.

:b I once under another name got thrown out of "some" forum for getting so overly pissed off about some elitist comments that I told another member to just STHU. And then I did the well-known "disection" of his thread taking everything out of context and exaggerating his stupidity even more. Ooh, boy I got tossed in a heartbeat for not apologizing... cest la vie.
I've also shut down some threads on purpose.:D

Well, I started a thread that had a picture warning people not to do a certain "personal" thing, or else a certain someone would kill a cute little certain type of pet. (Sorry, I want to be super vague so I don't ruffle any feathers)

Hahaha, I think that picture and quote are funny as all hell!!!
Cam, you just made my day.
At least I know there's one other sicko out there that enjoys my humor. :D

Shortly after I put up my sig pic, there were a lot of nostril jokes going on.
I figured I'd let everyone get it out of their systems and started a thread in After Hours, something along the lines of "What is the largest thing that will fit up my left nostril?"
I heard later that the thread did get a few replies. Unfortunately, I didn't see any of them as the thread was completely deleted.
For those of you who frequent Thread Killer, you know that that immortal question has now been answered. :D

The problem with After Hours is that too many people here seem to think the section is titled "Anything Goes."

Please read the forum description before clicking in. Trashy, tasteless, offensive posts/threads will continue to be locked or deleted, with no explanation required.

We have received more member complaints about After Hours posts than all other sections combined. Further, this section has come perilously close to being shut down altogether--in fact, as recently as last week.

It can be fun to laugh about past indiscretions, no harm there. But you should read some of the complaints we receive regarding offensive AH posts, and then appreciate better just how often and easily people can be offended by the occasional thoughtless post that pops up here.

Although, I have to ask, are posts being locked/deleted simply because one person takes offense? Or do they have to really be in bad taste?

I'm all for locking down nasty threads. I'm just curious, though, as to what criteria have to be met. I'd hate to think that a single complaint always results in a thread lock. If the moderators agree with the complaint, that's one thing - who am I to question your actions? But, given enough people, there is always someone who will take offense to any given post.

Anyway, I'd hate to see After Hours close because of a few nasty members. 90% of my posts are here. I enjoy BSing with people who share my interest in Home Theater more than I do talking about Home Theater specifically (this is because every time I enter another forum here, I end up spending money and/or embarking on a new HT project).

Again, read the descriptive blurb for After Hours.

The latest emphasis has been a reinvigorated get-tough approach to sexist posts and threads--and I promise you this will continue.

Sometimes an admin may simply not like the tone of a thread and just shut the thing down--one example was the thread Steve Christou mentioned; any thread that singles out another Forum member is subject to scrutiny.

After Hours can be a fun place, but we prefer not to see members post here exclusively (and the same applies to another Forum section found immediately "next door" to this one).
