Definitely some streches in there. Buffy makes 27, but no Angel. No Space:Above and Beyond. How about The Prisoner. It's almost like the writer had the first 8 in mind, posed the question to his friends during a drinking bout and then just threw 42 responses in no real order to make an even 50.

No "Farscape" as well. "Sliders" at #10?

I also think nothing that only has a couple of seasons (Stargate: Atlantis, BSG, Lost) should be on the list. Lots of potential, but the book hasn't been written on them yet.

I would disagree with that. Most good SciFi tends to get hackneyed/repetitive very quickly. Compare Dark Angel Season 1 with Dark Angel Season 2. It's a hard genre to stay fresh more than a couple seasons and that's what I think separates the top 8 on the list from just about everything else, even though the ST's and Twilight Zone have more than their share of stinkers.

Compared to some of those other shows, I think The 4400 deserves to be up there as well.

Wow. The hitchhiker. Forgot how much I loved that show.
Otherwise, its a hard list to judge.

Doesnt really seem to follow any sort of plan.
Is it ranked by popularity? Quality? Influence?

Plus, some of those shows hardly had a season. I get the impression that the author was just filling slots at some point.
The descriptions on the boston-globe site seem like studio filler.

I'm glad Doctor Who made #8
But next to MST3K? How can you even compare the 2???

I totally forgot Farscape. Geez that list now becomes even more ridiculous. :D

I hate lists.

I hate this list more.

Shows that aren't even sci-fi and shouldn't be considered for this list:

Lost
Xena
The Hitchhiker
Tales From the Crypt
Wonder Woman
The Jetsons
Buffy
Adventures of Superman
The Avengers
Batman
Nowhere Man
Lois and Clark
Greatest American Hero
That was Then
3rd Rock

That's 30% of the list that is automatically eliminated. I won't even bother listing the crappy shows on the list. We all know what they are.

No DS9 but we get Voyager?
No Farscape but we get "V" "Buck Rogers" and "Logans Run??"
The person who made up the list should be fired.

That's fun. Really professional. No matter there's not Farscape or DS9 listed, those two are extremely poor shows anyway.

I think this is an opinion of one single journalist who listed all the scifi shows he's seen. Got to be, otherwise this is just a big joke.

These 2 blow my mind. There's no reason for either of them to be there.

If the Boston Globe isn't an authority on science fiction, I don't know who is. :)

I laughed outloud when I read that Stargate SG-1 was better than The Twilight Zone. Maybe the one that was on UPN.

And call me crazy but I find it premature to say that a show that hasn't even been on for two years like the new Battlestar Gallactica is the second best sci-fi show in history. Not that it's a bad show but I think if you're going to compile a list like this, the show should not still be in production to be able to make the list.

I hope your joking

How in the world did Earth Final Conflict and Andromeda get on the list. Talk about two shows that tanked half way.
