I don't see A Beautiful Mind being held up as a classic in 50 years time. It has 2 absolutely first-rate performances. But too many liberties have been taken with the truth. AND Mental illness practically defines the Oscars nowadays, so its likely to blend in with all those also residing in this ample category.

This quote is fun in a variety of contexts. :)
I think mental or physical afflictions have been a staple of the acting awards (Geoffery Rush, Dustin Hoffman, Daniel Day Lewis, Al Pacino), but not so much a factor in the best picture winners.

'The English Patient' shall most definately stand the test of time. Infact it was one of the best films of the 1990's, far better than most of the other 9 best film winners from the list.

'Titanic' & 'American Beauty' are the two films to my mind that really will not stand the test of time.

What defines "standing the test of time"?
It just occured to me that there were many definitions of this term. It could simply mean that a film will continue a merit of discussion. It could mean that it will become a part of our pop culture construct.
Or it could simply mean we'll all be old and gray and still respond to this thread wondering if Titanic will stand the test of time. :D
