I think what some people might be waiting for from you before making any kind of suggestions may include:
    • Size of Room For Sub
    • Percentage of HT use vs. Music
    • Maximum you are willing to spend.
    • Equipment you may currently own. (Receiver/Amps)
I'm new to this forum still, but what I listed is the minimal information that most people need to know before they can begin to offer suggestions. When it comes to price, most people agree around here that SVS and Hsu is where you'll get the best bang for your buck.

i live in a apt right now 15x12 but i want a large room sub for future use.

    60%HT - 40%Music

maybe a glass roof of $800 is a start. is it even possible to get a good subs for under that?

    im looking at going with a Pioneer 912k w/ a Carver Av505

goodness yes. SVS pci series would be excellent and very comfotably below that budget. PC+ i think you be around 800 bucks depending on the tune/size.

If it is a glass roof then maybe go for the PB2 for $900.

Best budget sub? My used VMPS Large Subwoofer for $182 shipped. EBay special. [IMG] Actually, I believe someone is selling a VMPS New Original Subwoofer - 6 months old - for $450 delivered on Audiogon.com. Could use most anything except your primary receiver to power it with. Any of the others would be excellent subs and I would add the Rocket UFW-10 to that list though it is more designed for music rather than HT (could bottom out at either 20Hz or 16Hz).

i have to second (third and foruth!!) SVS

In its price range I have never heard anything as crisp, clear, acurate, and bone crunching!

When i finally got my dvd player outputing on bitstream and not pcm (thanks svs-ron!) I watched toy story two the "crossing the street under the cones scene" and literally became frightend when the bass hit for the first time!!! ( I thought there was an explosion outside or something!)

at $525 this thing is a steal!!! it may be a steal at $1025!
