I currently am using JBL N38's as my mains with the JBL NSPII 5 speaker package for surrounds. I'm selling my house and the buyers have requested the attached surround speakers remain. I'll have some money after the sale so I thought why not do an upgrade in the new place. I'll be taking the N38's with me. Would they match well with anything other than the JBL N series though? JBL's E series perhaps?
That said, I am open for a new setup altogether. Any recomendations within the $500-$700 range. Don't necessarily need a sub; currently using a 10" Dayton that I'm quite happy with. The rest of the gear is a Denon 2200 and Denon AVR1804 (to begin with at least; most likely do an upgrade there as well.) Usage will be 50/50 music and movies. Haven't found a new place yet, so I don't have room dimensions, but it will be a moderate sized room at best I'm sure. Nothing huge. Probably won't be making the purchase until after the new year, but would like to get a head start on research and pricing.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

You probably aren't going to find something that is a huge step up from what you have for that kind of money. I'd consider just using that money to get 3 great fronts and use the N38s for surrounds.

There are some really good choices:

Havent heard them myself (i have the level 3) but got the word from friends at avsforum that they are good. You can try them and you will get money back and they will pay for shipping, if not satisfied.
    The other will be:

Drop the sub and it will be in your price range but you will lose the LFE feeling for movies.

There is also the SBS-01 package for $799 - 7.0 and use with your sub. A little above your budget, but a worth while setup. I heard them in a 5.1 config with the PB-10ISD and it was pretty good.

The Onyx setup should be a solid contender too.

I'd call any of them an upgrade, but how much of an upgrade will depend on what you are looking for.

Thanks for the info. I'll look into those options.

John, if I were to keep the N38's as surrounds what would works as good fronts that would match with them? More N38's with an N24 center like I had before? Keep in mind, I'd like 7.1.

    Thanks guys.

They don't make the former Ns anymore, but the Northridge E series should match up pretty well with those guys (they are the current generation of the Ns) I'd step up in the center category to something bigger & better (if you have room), and some corresponding mains to go with it. Fill in with whichever E series bookshelf or surrounds fit with your new room.
