Came across this site with some spoilers for Season 3. Read 'em at your peril:

http://www.patriotresource.com/bg/in...s/season3.html

I thought the time was right to start a Season 3 thread, since the old one was was pretty full, and we have lots of threads for movies before their release.

I'm wondering if the show can get a well-deserved Emmy nod for Best Dramatic Series and carry its buzz into the new season.

Ron Moore and David Eick just accepted their Peabody Award recently, the network's first. I think there's a strong argument to be made that the Peabody is much more prestiguous than the Emmy.
In his acceptance speech for "South Park", Matt Stone apparently spent a good deal of time praising "Battlestar."
Eick in turn retorted in his acceptance speech that if Kenny doesn't turn out to be a Cylon next season he'll be pissed.

Wow the season is five months away. I think this is the earliest I have ever seen a thread started. Perhaps I should start the NFL 06-07 thread since that season is only 3 months away. (Just kidding)

I know I'm excited.

Adam, where you the guy who in the original Battlestar remake thread who was strongly against this new serise being good? I'm sorry if your not - but I found that thread facinating when reading it recently (my friend got me into Battlestar, the new one, in March, I've watched it all in about one week) and I was curious to see how many of the people who were opposed to it, feel about it now, especially when comapred to the original.

I agree it is early, but now that spoilers are starting to surface, it seemed more appropriate to have a season 3 thread than to continue the season 2 thread. Of course, we can make this the pre-season 3 thread and begin again when the season begins (in four months!).

Glad to hear about the Peabody - it is a more prestigious award than the Emmy (bah!), but of course, the Emmy gets all the recognition in the papers and on TV.

So this is the pre-season thread?

I'm just marking time until the half-time thread...

;)

Never watched the original, so at the beginning I was more apathetic than anything else. Didn't get into the mini-series. Watched the first episode on a whim. Been in love ever since.:)

Charlie's right about Kleist, though. He HATED the very idea of a new Battlestar.

It wouldn't surprise me if he still does, and has burnt Richard Hatch in effigy for participating in the blasphemy.

It's amazing how much people love that original serise, being born in the 80s, and having only seen the original in re-runs on SciFi - I only watched it for the camp value. I would find it hard personally to respect that series, but then again I never grew up with it. (It's hard defending how bad Thundercats is now upon reflection). But the new Battlestar is a REALLY solid show in terms of drama and story.

Mind you I'm not trying to knock Jeff for liking the original, I can understand his love for it and the drastic changes they made to the new revamp.

Wow. Only a LITTLE bit better, said I. I just rewatched the pilot again LAST weekend--and holy crap I couldn't have been more wrong. There were pacing problems in the miniseries, yeah, but at least they never detoured onto a CASINO PLANET at any point.

What was I thinking? Trying to be TOO fair, I guess.

No need to be too hard on yourself. I had similar thoughts at first, but once I got into S1, it was clear the new one, admittedly also a different animal, but assuming one can really compare apples and oranges, was much better than the old. And I do like the old series, cheese and all.

I guess the biggest turn-off for fans of the old was Starbuck's sex-change. Once you got past that, it wasn't that difficult (at least for me) to like the new version.

And David must be prescient. VERY good call IMHO.

How long do webisodes typically last? I assume just a few minutes, but still, even at 5 minutes each, that's nearly an hour of new content. Hopefully, these will be available for viewing before the premiere of season 3, thus easing the long wait.

That really does sound pretty awesome. I know both "Smallville" and "The Office" did these. I didn't bother watching those, but assuming the first short is up to series standards I'll definitely be watching all of these.

Is it just me, am I confused.. I thought that we only got 1/2 of season 2 and the other half was to run this summer. Was I completely out of my mind? I was thinking that they were saying the selling of a shortened season 2 DVD would result in a Season 2.5 set later, after the summer eps aired.

Maybe I am just out of my mind!

Is there a date for the season 3 premiere yet? Any idea if it will still be on Fridays?

I love how vague SCIFI is when it comes to announcing the start dates of their shows. Up through June, they were announcing that the "Stargate" shows were returning in July but did not state that it was 14 July. In some of their ads on other stations, they say to "check local listings". That is really interesting since, as a basic cable station, they control what time a show is on, not a local station.
