Another nod to Three O'Clock High

Also, two pretty terrible 'staff member as high school vigilante' movies:
The Principal (with James Belushi).. anyone remember this one?... simply terrible
The Substitute ... also terrible.

Yeah, but Scott you did forget Clueless...luckily Vickie had your back on it though. ;)
Other than that, I'd say Scott's list is a great start on the subject.
However, I think everyone forgot to mention A Christmas Story which has many good elementary school class scenes.

thanks big time for the replies. i didnt know there are lots of movies about school.

i was actually interested with school related movies with female students in it, but i dont like girl movies that show how an ordinary girl climb up to the top, get sexier on every scene, and get the boy in the end, bla bla bla.

there was this movie, whispering corridor 2. korean movie, it involved school, high school girls, but no feminism involved.

by the way, thanks to vickie, that is exactly what i need.

Has anybody done Police Academy (is it up to sequential 1001 now) yet??
Vicki_M, great list, can't quite recall the connection of Annie Hall to elementary school, a little memory refresh, may be??
And then there's Fame (1980, New York City High School for the Performing Arts).
Nobody mentioned Lost and Delirious yet (talking about girls in school :D ) ?

Amarcord (Catholic, Italian Elementary school)
Flirting (Australian Private School)
A Seperate Peace (not nearly as good as the book)
Liberty Heights (Jewish view on Baltimore Schools)
Rules of Attraction (Screwed up college kids)
Billy Madison (K-12)
Wonder Boys (a sort of snapshot of Carnegie Mellon)
This Boys Life (middle and high school, sort of)
The Ice Storm (F'ed up New Canaan, my old home town)
Shine (Music School)
The Recruit (Spy School)
About a Boy (Private School)

I'm surprised I didn't see anybody mentioning "Blackboard Jungle". One of my many favourite movies. It's a superb movie with great acting and one fine script. It has got Rock around the clock on the soundtrack and a 30-year old Sidney Poitier acting 17 or 18 or so (!). I truely recommend it.

Lost and Delirious is a movie about school and it is about a girls school. This might be exactly what you are looking for Felix.

Another vote for Heavenly Creatures Peter Jackson 1994, New Zealand girls' school in the 1950s, very repressive.
And my signature film Picnic at Hanging Rock Peter Wier 1975, Australian girls' school in the 1900s, even more repressive.

If...
Unman, Wittering & Zigo
Child's Play (not the Chucky movie, but a creepy 1972 film with James Mason)
All 3 are from Paramount and not yet available on DVD, but If... is supposedly coming soon.

I'd estimate 20% or more of movies are about, or deal with, school. This is a pretty broad category.

In addition to what others have said, I'd add a Beautiful Mind, Mr. Holland's Opus and Kindergarten Cop. Noen of these are much about girls though. If you're interested in porn, I have a bunch of recommendations there as well.

Better Luck Tomorrow is out in theaters now, which presents high school life from an Asian-American perspective.
