I don't really have a comment (or an opinion, for that matter), on T-Rex or any dinosaurs being hyped by the media. Left-wing dinosaur lobby, maybe?
I used that cd purely as an example of the extension of the sub in my room, having read in an article by Tom Nousaine that that track contains 10-12 Hz signals. I have neither personal nor scientifically-derived knowledge of the actual fundamental frequency of a T-Rex step, and didn't mean to imply that I did.

The T-Rex footsteps are no hype.
Only subs capable of producing high SPL at very low frequencies (rare for most commercial subs) can do it effectively. You feel the room presurized, then the walls start to shake, then you hear the footsteps. Regular subs just hit their excursion limits before producing the +20Hz footsteps.
Who cares if T-Rex really makes 12Hz footsteps? Its a lot of fun to feel it!
