I was wondering, can somebody recommend a ht designer that can pick out the best equipment suitable for a room including acoustic treatments and equalize the system?

The pre/power amplifiers, projector, screen, cabinet, lighting, and seats have already been picked out. Now it's on to speakers and acoustic treatments.

I would ask you guys, but I've already tried convincing my friend on a set of speakers. However, he believes that a specialist would know better... and he's probably right.

I've never dealt with a designer before, but I'm guessing that a good designer you may know quite possibly hasn't dealt with a high budget. At most he's willing to spend 30k.

I don't want any recommendations on speakers, just designers please.

Edwin,

30k is _not_ a high budget, but rather average :). High will be much closer oer in excess of 6 digits..

Check JS audio in Bethesda 301-656-7020, http://www.jsaudio.com/;
also Soundworks in Kensington, MD 301-929-8600 (ask for Mark Haflich; he is quite active at AVforum);

Check Bill Lukacs (longtime HTF member, you can find quite a few of his posts here); 703-467-2007;

Another place would be AVSolutions in Laurel, MD; 301-953-7242 ask for Craig.

All the best,

_zjt

I've never seen Bill's work, but I've had him to my home for a couple of HTF meets, consider him a friend, and I would call him first if I was looking for a custom install. BTW, the last name is spelled "Lucas".

The company that's doing the wiring in my new tract house is Enlightened Homes. I believe they may do custom installs also. Once again, I can't speak first hand as to their work since I've only had a planning meeting so far. They appear to be very professional, I have confidence that they will do a great job with my movie room (not a dedicated room, but a corner of the rec room, prewired with in-wall subs and conduit for a projector).

I think 30K is going to be a very modest budget for this kind of work.
