Does anyone have any updates on the PH: Vista Series discs?

Its been a while since I've last heard of anything...

There was a big confusion as to the street date shifting back and forth and I'm really still not sure when its suppose to come out. How about the extras...I just hope nothing get's cut from the initial press release.

Ryan, those aren't all of the specs. Those were the specs when the DVD was announced last year.
Last time I checked, the DVD is coming out in July and it will be a four disc set.
Paging David Prior. David Prior, please pick up the white courtesy phone. :) :D

Apocalypse Now and Pearl Harbor are

A) From different studios

B) Made by very different directors

C) Differentiated by one being a catalog release

Apples and Oranges, really. Michael Bay gets a lot of stick on this forum, not all of it undeserved either, but he does like to present his films with special features - he comes across as someone hugely enthusiastic about explaining the kind of work involved in a production of this size.

Actually, it's now streeting on July 2 according to the latest The Digital Bits update. Also, DVD Empire has it up for preorder on that day too.

And it's a horrible film. Why? ................... Because Bill said so, of course.

Matthew is correct. July and four discs.

And I agree that there are other films deserving of a high-caliber release like this, but that doesn't happen by accident; someone has to drive the effort. If there's no concerted push by a filmmaker, a DVD producer or a studio, a special edition will not happen. Remember that there is no single decision-making body deeming what films shall receive special edition treatment, like so many royal citations.

Hope you enjoy the release.

Cheers,

David

The VISTA series (Vision, Imagination, Style, Theme, Artistry) is a

partnership with filmmakers that presents the definitive version of

the filmmaker's cinematic vision, with premium picture and sound

enhancements, and in-depth supplemental bonus programming derived

from collaboration with the filmmaker.

Inspired by the incredible bravery of the men and women who rose to

the challenge of Pearl Harbor and World War II, filmmakers Jerry

Bruckheimer and Michael Bay, the team behind such box office

blockbusters as "Armageddon" and "The Rock," have crafted an epic

drama that recreates the life-changing events and the shocking,

unforgettable bombing that became a turning point in history. PEARL

HARBOR draws upon a superb cast of both veteran and up-and-coming

Hollywood star talent in order to tell its larger-than-life tale.

The cast includes such stand-outs as Ben Affleck ("Bounce,"

"Armageddon"), Josh Hartnett ("O," "Blow Dry"), Kate Beckinsale

("Serendipity"), Cuba Gooding, Jr. ("Men of Honor;" Academy(R) Award

winner, Best Supporting Actor, 1997, "Jerry Maguire"), Tom Sizemore

("Red Planet"), Jon Voight ("Tomb Raider;" Academy(R) Award winner,

Best Actor 1979, "Coming Home"), Colm Feore ("The Caveman's

Valentine"), Dan Aykroyd ("Evolution") and Alec Baldwin ("State and

Main").

In PEARL HARBOR, Rafe McCawley (Ben Affleck) and Danny Walker (Josh

Hartnett) are childhood friends who both dream of flying. As the

world becomes embroiled in World War II in the early 1940's, Rafe

and Danny sign on with the United States armed forces, although

America is still in an isolationist position. Eager to participate

in combat, Rafe is compelled to join the British air fight against

the Nazis, leaving his girlfriend, beautiful army nurse Evelyn

Stewart (Kate Beckinsale) behind. When Evelyn and Danny are

transferred to the military base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, they hear

the news that Rafe has been shot down and killed. Trying to move on

after grieving, Danny and Evelyn fall in love. When Rafe returns

alive, the three find themselves in an uncomfortable personal

situation that is soon engulfed by the massive surprise attack on

Pearl Harbor.

Putting aside their differences, Rafe and Danny join the desperate

fight against the enemy invaders. The film's epic sweep intertwines

Rafe and Danny's stories with the heroic efforts of such characters

as "Dorie" Miller (Cuba Gooding Jr.), a ship's cook turned fighter,

Earl (Tom Sizemore), a courageous base mechanic, and Jimmy Doolittle

(Alec Baldwin), the visionary pilot who would lead one of America's

most famous counterattacks of the war. Dan Aykroyd appears as the

code breaking Captain Thurman and Jon Voight appears as President

Franklin Roosevelt.

PEARL HARBOR has a running time of approximately 183 minutes and is

close-captioned for the hearing-impaired. Bonus programming unrated.

VISTA series version has not yet been rated.

That's odd I though it had already been rated R.
I'm a little dissapointed that the seperate documentary about the attack itself and the one about the PH veterans returning to the Arizona Memorial are not included on this release either. But the "One Hour Over Tokyo" documentary is a great addition.
I also think showing the complete attack sequence by itself with comentary by real Pearl Harbor survivors a great idea. Mr. Prior if you're reading this GREAT JOB! :emoji_thumbsup:

What was posted by Andy Kim is part of a Disney press release with full specs for some of their big 2002 DVD releases. The "available August 27" is part of the next section of the press release, describing Disney's upcoming (8/27 release date) Schoolhouse Rock DVD.

Well they've been discribing this release as "The R-rated director's cut" for quite awhile now. So I guess the amount of added violence is so extreme they know they will get an R-rating even before they sumit it to the MPAA.

Hakan, buddy...well, it WAS the real deal...count the number of discs there. That was the set before it got upgraded to four discs. It perhaps may not be too different in design this time, but it's bound to have changed slightly.
