There's been some discussion in this thread about extras and how various studios treat their catalog titles. Leonard Maltin has a very interesting article up on his website about this very topic.

It's well worth reading in my opinion. His last paragraph is quite appropriate.

Probably too much to hope for Paramount releasing the chronological version of Godfather and Godfather 2 edited together with extra scenes (AKA: "Godfather - A Novel for Television"). I'd love to have this on DVD to go with my regular GF trilogy set.

There really don't seem to be that many titles requested on member want lists. There are some like REDS where there may be legal problems hold up the release. But there really isn't that much more for Paramount to release without going into the really obscure titles, which most people don't remember or have ever seen.

The only Paramount film I'm waiting for is "Oh What a Lovely War" but it wasn't a success at the box office and is seldom been on tv. Most people have never heard of it. I don't think it will sell well, but it does do well on ebay, but then again it's a cult film. I would be surprised if it does come out.

Here's a few that would find a home in my collection, but as I browsed Paramount's output, it does seem that the biggies are mostly gone from the unreleased list...

Tell Me That You Love Me, Junie Moon (1970)
The Sterile Cuckoo (1969)
Skidoo (1968)
The Bliss of Mrs. Blossom (1968)
The Swinger (1966)
Beach Ball (1965)
The Amorous Adventures of Moll Flanders (1965)
Crack in the World (1965)
Love with the Proper Stranger (1963)
Who's Been Sleeping in My Bed? (1963)
Summer and Smoke (1961)
The Pleasure of His Company (1961)
On the Double (1961)
The Rat Race (1960)
Career (1959)
Wild Is the Wind (1957)
The Buster Keaton Story (1957)
Knock on Wood (1954)

What are the legal problems holding up Reds? Now that Kong has been released, it seems to me that this, "African Queen" and "Magnificent Ambersons" are the three most prominent films not on DVD (not counting a proper release for the 39 "Wuthering Heights") (Of course, there are countless others too...)

On Mark B's list, the ones I'm really hoping for are

The Sterile Cuckoo (1969)
Love with the Proper Stranger (1963)
Summer and Smoke (1961)

Does anyone know if Paramount has decided not to release MAHOGANY? (I thought it was supposed to come out with LADY SINGS THE BLUES)

i don't think paramount cares about putting out special features . and as to catalog tittles what they could do is though out a mix bag of popular tittles and lesser known tittles.

I'm surprised Paramount hasn't released THE NAKED PREY (1966) yet, as that's been a perennial title that they released on both VHS and LD (albeit in a rotten Full-Screen transfer, rather than its proper 2:35:1 Panavision OAR), and got heavy rotation on AMC for years.

Beyond that, there are still several Paramount-owned catalog movie titles I still want to own on DVD, including:

ROBINSON CRUSOE ON MARS (1964)
CRACK IN THE WORLD (1965)
ACE IN THE HOLE (1951)
THE AFRICAN QUEEN (1951)
DARK CITY (1950)
THE ACCUSED (1948)
APPOINTMENT WITH DANGER (1951)
UNION STATION (1950)
TARZAN'S GREATEST ADVENTURE (1959)
TARZAN THE MAGNIFICENT (1960)
PHASE IV (1973)
THE FRIENDS OF EDDIE COYLE (1973)
WINGS (1927)
LET'S SCARE JESSICA TO DEATH (1973)
DR. TERROR'S HOUSE OF HORRORS (1965)
THE MAN WHO COULD CHEAT DEATH (1959)
THE BLISS OF MRS. BLOSSOM (1968)
FRAULEIN DOKTOR (1969)
SPACE CHILDREN (1958)
IF... (1968)
UNMAN, WITTERING & ZIGO (1971)

--and possibly a few others whose titles have slipped my mind at the moment.

Also, improved versions of some top Republic catalog films Paramount has recently acquired, like THE QUIET MAN (1952) and INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS (1955).

I haven't bought any of the double-dips (except the great SE of WAR OF THE WORLDS (1953)), although I am waiting for anamorphic re-releases of a few early Paramount widescreen DVDs, like BREAKDOWN (1997) and ESCAPE FROM ALCATRAZ (1979).

Invasion of the Body Snatchers
It's a Wonderful Life

I'll watch and/or collect just about anything made in the 70's. So, using the list of Paramount-distributed films from that decade generated by imdb, my list of most wanted on DVD would include:

Tell Me That You Love Me, Junie Moon (1970)
Conformista, Il (The Conformist)(1970)
WUSA (1970)
Little Fauss and Big Halsy (1970)
A New Leaf (1971)
Friends (1971)
Unman, Wittering and Zigo (1971)
Let's Scare Jessica to Death (1971)
A Gunfight (1971)
T.R. Baskin (1971)
Four Flies on Grey Velvet (1971)
Such Good Friends (1971)
Hannie Caulder (1971)
Deadhead Miles (1972)
Charley One-Eye (1972)
The Legend of Nigger Charley (1972)
The Possession of Joel Delaney (1972)
Z.P.G. (1972)
The Pied Piper (1972)
Child's Play (1972)
Super Fly T.N.T. (1973)
The Soul of Nigger Charley (1973)
The Friends of Eddie Coyle (1973)
Badge 373 (1973)
Hit! (1973)
Phase IV (1974)
Shanks (1974)
Mandingo (1975)
Coonskin (1975)
Ansikte mot ansikte (Face to Face)(1976)
1900 (1976)
Bugsy Malone (1976)
Won Ton Ton, the Dog Who Saved Hollywood (1976)
Looking for Mr. Goodbar (1977)
Race for Your Life, Charlie Brown (1977)
Handle with Care (Citizen's Band)(1977)
King of the Gypsies (1978)
The One and Only (1978)
American Hot Wax (1978)
Bloodline (1979)
Sunburn (1979)

...whew! More than I thought. Most have a cult following, and would seem to have their best chance of getting a release if licensed out to a specialty label like Anchor Bay, Synapse, etc. Paramount does not seem to have much history in doing that, though. There are also a few politically incorrect titles, which obviously Paramount is not touching. If I had to pick ONE from the list: Phase IV, the only directorial effort from title-sequence genius Saul Bass.

In my case, you'll probably have to revive me as I'll have fainted with shock if Paramount finally does release this.

OMG, somebody else remembers this movie! It came out in Japan thru MGM about 2 years ago and I bought a copy. It's a pretty good transfer.

My big want is "Little Darlings". Ah, Kristy McNichol...

No, he means THE RUNNING MAN, the Arnold Schwarzenegger action film. It's part of the Republic library through Taft Broadcasting, and Paramount would be foolish not to reissue it, as I don't think they've ever previously had a Schwarzenegger film to exploit on video.

"Phase IV"

Intelligent, killer ants.

And Lynne Frederick. Had a big crush on her after viewing this oddball flick. Sad story in real life.
