Please advise: Do I buy the current bare-bones DVD of THE BAD NEWS BEARS (I mean, the real thing, with Walter Matthau), or wait for some upcoming special edition that maybe I don't know about, seeing as Hollywood has gone and remade this, and this new version will hopefully tank and be on DVD in like three weeks with all the usual bells and whistles. Will they re-release the original in a better edition? Any knowledge here?

    Thanks!

Well the original is in the Walmart $5.50 bin. So it pretty tough to go wrong at that price.

Didn't I read something a while back about a box set of all three of the BAD NEWS BEARS films being released?

Huh, maybe I'll get to the dreaded Walmart early this week and see if I can find a copy. Thanks for the tip.

I'm pretty sure it's just the 3 current discs packaged together. It's too bad we didn't get a special edition of the original to coincide with the remake.

It's pretty senseless to wait for Paramount to come out with a special edition of anything.

I dug thru the big $5.50 DVD bin. I mean, I practically climbed into it a rooted all around in there. Like "dumpster diving." Loads of junk. But... I came up with two copies of the original widescreen BAD NEWS BEARS (one for me, one for a friend). Two for eleven bucks. Okay, I'll buy that.

By the way, I'd like to know, from anyone who might possibly go see the new remake, whether or not they left...

"All we got on this team are a buncha Jews, spics, niggers, pansies, and a booger-eatin' moron!"

    ...in the film.

What would THE BAD NEWS BEARS be without that line?

Nuthin. I'm happy to have found the original for cheap.

I think you're gonna find out because I doubt that line is in the remake.

I actually found this box set today, 39 days before street date, that's gotta be a personal record. It was $16.24 for all three movies. I won't name the retailer but the crazy price oughta narrow it down for anyone else who's interested.

actually, the street date was last week. You can get it just about everywhere.

BTW, although this belongs in the Movies forum, I'm curious about Micah's question. Anyone see it yet?

FYE is offering the original Bad News Bears for $4.99 with any purchase (otherwise it's $9.99).

Not funny in today's world, huh?

Then, how come I laugh when he says that line in the original film?

Let's remake more stuff for today's world! [IMG]

That joke wouldn't be funny to kids today. It would be shocking and unfunny to them.

Then I feel sorry for kids today. [IMG]

What a rip off it must be to be a kid today.

That line is funny in the context of a movie that was filmed in 1976 but times have changed and it would be inappropriate to include it 29 years later, at least in a film aimed at children.

    Then... Why remake this movie?

(Oh, duh: money. I keep forgetting about money and stuff. That whole money thing. Thank goodness none of mine will go to the remakers.)

Why not just make a whole new movie about kids playing baseball? If stuff in 1976's THE BAD NEWS BEARS is "inappropriate" for today's kids, what does that mean? Does it mean that kids today are too sophisticated for bathroom humor? Or, that they are not sophisticated enough for the subtle adult humor of something like THE BAD NEWS BEARS? Isn't the whole humor of the thing, I mean in the original film, predicated on how "inappropriate" the humor is for kids?

I feel sorry for kids today. They gotta wear those ridiculous bike helmets, too; that's gotta be a blow to any kid's self esteem. I'm so glad I didn't have to wear those helmets when I was a kid. Being a kid was tough enough.

    You get my drift, eh?
