I am not sure, but I think I read that the resolution of the bluray will be 1080p. My question is, is it know whether there will also be a 720p version along with the 1080p to avoid scaling? since most projectors currently are 720p, the 1080 would need to be scaled back to 720p

I believe that the resolution will be determined by the software, and might be different from disc to disc. I would imagine that many Blu-Ray players will have the capability of scaling, as should your projector. Of course by the time a person finds Blu-Ray players affordable, 1080p projectors should be within reason as well (one can hope, at least).
Anyways, I'll take 1080p downscaled to 720p over 480i upscaled to 720p anyday [IMG]

Keep in mind that this is all speculation, and that very few firm details are known of Blu-Ray players and software. Same goes for HD-DVD.
