I was a little loopy from so much "24" in so short a time span, I thought last night was Tuesday night for some reason. Initial post corrected.

I think tonight will be the Chicago audition (not sure if there's another site to be shown as well in the 2 hours for tonight).

It's been over for almost an hour and no posts? That about sums it up. A lot of people praise Fox for only doing one season a year to ensure it's not overkill, but they forget how excessive the season is the 4-5 months it airs.

The first few results shows go against Survivor and Everybody Hates Chris, so my two VCRs are taken up. Oh well.

Pretty funny start...AI is at it's best in the early auditions. After that I lose interest. [IMG]

It's only the auditions, which I haven't found to be that enjoyable anymore. There'll be a lot more discussion when it gets beyond these first several episodes.

Last year was my first year watching, but I have to assume there was some good talent that made it through that they didn't show. It looked like they only chose a few people, and if the few they showed were all Chicago had to offer, that's a pretty damning indictment of Chicago's talent base. I think the overweight black woman had about the best voice, but we all know she isn't going to go far. The Twins were decent, but they won't go anywhere, either. If it narrows down to one of them quickly and he chooses decent songs, at best he can be a Scott Sabol (which would be fine for me). I'm looking forward to that period of time in Hollywood when they're in the closed space but before performing on the big stage in front of the frantic audience. Those were my favorite performances last year in terms of presence and sound.

Man, I'm the exact opposite. Once the auditions are over, I'm out.

We already have a ringer like Carrie from last season. That slender long haired blonde girl they show in various clips looks to be another set up somewhat like Carrie was last year. I bet on the first show she appears they will just happen to have an up close and personal backstory all shot in HD.

The dark-haired girl in pink/fuscia had a better voice than the blonde ringer girl.

Some of my favorite moments from last night:
    • Both sets of twins were impressive. The 16 yr olds were better, IMHO.
    • The suntan girl and her mom were hilarious.
    • The guy that brought his grandmother was downright bizarre.
    • The psychotic nut at the end will be something that Paula and Randy will come to regret. That boy is going to hurt himself or someone before this is all over.
    • The guy that kept singing "I shot the sherriff" over and over and over again cracked me up.
Fun stuff! Looking forward to tonight.

    Peace,

    DM

You have to wonder if Simon's sometime real nasty (although funny) comments will end up causing someone to physically go nuts and attack either him or others?

Every time it went on for another chorus I just laughed louder.

So am I. The auditions offer the best of AI, the laughs.

I prefer the show after the field is narrowed down to 48 or thereabouts and it becomes a real competition. I'm finding the audition rounds quite annoying, as they are NOT funny anymore and just a rather mean way of humiliating people. I'm tired of seeing people mouth off to the camera about how the judges will regret their decision after the singer becomes a star, how they're better than another applicant, or wearing stupid outfits to get attention. The judges seemed excessively snippy last night as well.

If none of the contestants appeal to me by the cut, I think I'll bow out of watching this year. At least I'll have a second season of "Rockstar" to look forward to -- MUCH better talent and my type of music.

"you look like the incredible hulk's wife"

do add any effects to these people to enhance their voice during taping.
maybe i just never noticed before but it sounds like a reverb or echo has benn added.

It sounds to me like the space they were using in Denver for auditions introduced it's own echo... It sounded like a cavernous space, like maybe a ballroom. It's hard to tell with all the backer boards in place to create the audition 'set'.

I have to say I was totally blown away by the performance of Lisa Tucker this evening. I think she'll definitely make the Top 12.

I felt the bit of playing "The Crying Game" for the last audition was over-the-top cruel to that kid; yeah, he didn't get in, but why spend so much effort poking fun at his sexual orientation.
