From my viewpoint, she was trying to point out that "yodel-girl" wasn't being authentic. That she wasn't being herself. She indicated that she saw her outside, and the person that auditioned was TOTALLY different. Basically, she was putting on an act or something. (I can see a carefully-created "persona" being created for that girl by her seeminly overzealous Mom.) Regardless, I think there is some talent there that can be harnessed, so I'm glad Randy sent her through.

What the hell was with that 18-year old punk throwing water on Simon? Yah, THAT kind of action will get you far if you want to be a performer. (Which there is no danger of...)

The moment he did it, I thought "hey, that is technically a case of assault!" I was glad to see that he was escorted out, and talked to by the cops. At least Simon didn't press charges (which would have been stupid and bad publicity)... I'm guessing Simon was just glad to be done in Houston.

I understood her point, but I just did not see the girl putting on any kind of act. Unless the girl was a total diva bitch outside.

I was hoping to see the episode with the Asian guy singing "She Bangs" then telling the judges that he has no formal training.[IMG] Apparently he auditioned in San Fran so I gotta wait until next week.[IMG]

Is next week only San Fran? I was wondering if they were going to focus on the Hawaii auditions at all.

I've just started to watch and really get into the Fox television show "American Idol" for season three.
I've been watching so far all of the auditions they have been televising in the cities they were in NY, Atlanta, Houston, LA/SanFRancisco. Etc. I was wondering if they will include these auditions we are watching now on Fox for the DVD???

I think the auditioners are hilarious that Simon , Paula, and Randy are rejecting. Just looking at their faces is a hoot to watch. I especially like the little Chinese guy that will be auditioning tonight from SanFrancisco. I hope they will include his performance and some of the more funnier rejects on the DVD when it comes out.

    Yall's thoughts on this appreciated,
    Troy

i had a thread in the music section a while back asking for the title of a song that i could barely remember. well on the show tonight, i think someone sang it. it was the asian kid who was wearing a brown shirt, and his parents were refugees or something. i didnt actually see him sing, only overheard it from the kitchen, so i couldnt hear what the title of the song was. sooo...i was hoping someone could tell me the title and artist, it has been bugging me for too long! thanks

The Asian guy singing that Ricky Martin song, at least I think it was(She Bangs! She Bangs!), was quite possibly the funniest moment I have seen on TV in a long long time. I nearly spit my water at the tv. Then he says he has no formal musical training, and Simon said something to the effect of "Well there is the suprise of the Century"...

    LMAO...

and his last name was Hung...

I feel so dirty for watching this show, as I normally hate reality type shows...but I cant get enough of American Idol...

One of the funniest moments on TV.

I can't watch the whole series, just the first few episodes, where you get to see people wash out from their self-delusion. But, that part is entertaining enough [IMG]

If I remember correctly, I think he sang Desperado. I could be wrong though.

The folks that they are choosing is shaping up for a nice mix of talent and personality, looks like another great season.

She Bangs She Bangs guy was the highlight of the season so far, truly hysterical.

I almost fell off the couch when Hoang (She Bang) did his 90 seconds of singing standup.

I didn't think the cheerleader singing the Whitney Houston song sounded all that hot, but she was fairly attractive.

Simon had her pegged down perfectly: good at everything she puts her effort to, but not great. She's cute but not gorgeous, can carry a tune and sing decently but not particularly well, can probably dance OK but nothing special, etc.

In other words, a perfect modern-day Hollywood celebrity (I'll spare naming a few whom I feel fit this mold to avoid a tangential argument [IMG]).

The most fascinating aspect of the show is the ire of the rejectees: so many insist on blaming the judges, or arguing that their crappiness is just the judges' "opinion." They hold on to these lame cliches like "I don't care what you say, I'm gonna make it!" or "they passed up a good thing" or "I gave it my best." Empty fortune-cookie catch-phrases they picked up from the same soulless pop-culture pool that they are trying to be a part of.

Ok, that sounds right. I just get them all confused. Unless they really stood out, I don't ever remember what they sang. And last night, nobody really stood out.

Loved how Simon dismissed the guy who answered his "What would you do with the $1 million?" question with BS.

I was chuckling at that one too Patrick.

"Well, I'd give 100,000 to charity, then invest some of it, then give more to charity."

Please. I'm all for supporting charities, but my answer would have been something akin to: "Buy a hot car, then a hot car for my wife. Pay off the house, throw a big-ass party, and then invest the rest." [IMG]

Then the non-million-dollar-kid sees that the guy behind him (who had a FAR better voice...) got through and stood there looking shocked...saying "him? OH please!" Dude...he was better than you were. By far.

Didn't he also say something about being the next big R&B star? I'm sure when they have "R&B Idol" they'll call you. [IMG]

I love all the people talking about Randy & Simon being idiots, and not knowing a damn thing about singing. Uh...folks? They do know what they are talking about. They are rather successful fellows in their fields...

He sang Desperado. Simon commented on how he liked the arrangement. The other Asian guy with the funny non-asian last name (Hibble? Hornswoggle?) sang Stevie.

Speaking of which, I was concerned while watching the commercials that Hung (She Bangs) had Down's Syndrome. I was appalled to think Simon et al had stooped so low as to make fun of the developmentally disabled. Well, considering he's an engineering major or something, I guess he's not retarded. Anyway...

The brilliance of the performance was that it was not some sort of uncontrolled spaz out like the Flashdance girl from ep 2. No, no. It was carefully choreographed and rehearsed, with much attention paid to coordinating hand gestures and movements with the lyrics. Even with all that, his movements were so small, so reserved, and so uncoordinated that the only thing stopping anyone from laughing out loud is the possibility that he has Down's Syndrome.

    Truly the highlight so far.

Hung was funny, but I laughed so much harder at the "ain't no mountain wide enough" guy. Possibly the most grating voice I've heard yet on the show, and he was so into his performance. Then he looks up to see Randy staring at the ceiling and Simon incredulous. Stops . . . beat, 2, 3, 4. "I guess that's a no?"

Simon says "worst I've ever heard" so much that it's lost it's effect. But that guy was truly bad.

Oh yeah!! and the 'hairyplane' girl. LOL
