That results show was as staged as a wrestling match. Nigel and Simon should be ashamed.

No, Jeffery is in conspiracy theory mode where the real bottom three was Colton, Hollie, and Phillip and they fake booted Jessica to save her.

It's entirely possible they orchestrated the judges' outrage and choreographed the ending, but I am certain that the votes themselves were not manipulated in that fashion. There are too many people who know the vote totals for them to take a chance on rigging the votes.

Considering Pia was axed early last season (without the save they had already used on Casey) it's clearly not out of the question that Jessica in fact received the lowest number of votes. Like last season, there are likely two front runners (Colton and Phillip) who are so far out in front that the order of the rest of the contestants is more or less random. Voters were so busy trying to save cutie pie Hollie that they didn't bother voting for the presumably safe Jessica.

I like Hollie.
Don't expect her to win but hope she stays awhile.

I thought the judges reaction and all that nonsense was staged. However the vote wasn't so surprising to me that I think it was rigged. How long has it been since a woman won the show? 4-5 years? The idea that Colton and Phillip were part of the real bottom three doesn't make sense to me. If I'm not mistaken, the majority of voters are girls who throw their votes to the boys, and for a girl to get to the top 3, she needs a solid voting base. Skylar maybe, because she's a country singer for example, like we saw with Lauren whatever her name was. If this is accurate, it would logically follow that Jessica, Elise and Hollie are all in deep trouble in whatever order, and there's no way Joshua is going to win the girls vote against Phillip and Colton.

I thought maybe Jessica might somehow break the trend of the past 4-5 years and win because she is young enough that maybe she would appeal to some female voters, but apparently that ain't happening. This is why I always finish at or near the bottom in the AI challenge every year.

Really surprising bottom 3, given that Hollie seemed to have a really off week, and should have been bottom 3 while Jessica was presumably safe. Also, Phillip didn't have a great week, so it sort-of appeared that he might show up in the bottom 3 (no doubt 3rd from bottom) for the first time. Colton I just don't get so didn't think it odd. Yet Joshua, who had the only standing ovation, joined never-been-in-bottom-3-so-far Jessica, in the bottom 3.

But on further reflection, considering voting patterns and audience demographic, Carl's analysis is spot-on -- Phillip will cruise to the finale, by now it appears Colton will make top 3 easily as well, whereas the girls could finish in just about any random order; and since Hollie appeared in trouble, her fans bothered to vote, while Jessica's may have been overly confident of her position. Suffice to say it won't happen again, and she should just about make top 4, at the expense of Elise, Hollie and Joshua. (Skylar, as already noted, being the only country girl, has her own fairly solid fanbase and therefore doesn't compete with Hollie or Jessica for the same votes.)

Has there been any formal statement or indication that next week will see two voted off? While this has been the pattern in years past, this year with Jermaine's disqualification, the season would otherwise be one week short, so they can 'make it up' by not having a double-elimination next week.

There's no way either Colton or Phillip makes it into the top spots, but that's my opinion. I predict they will be among the bottom again and yes, I do believe the whole show was known prior and fully staged. Not for one second do I believe in ANY "reality" show being real. They show what they want to show you, much like going to Las Vegas and their casinos. Sure, there are certain guides they go by and show to the public, but there are many ways to make things happen in their favor.

What I can't figure out is who is Hollie's fan base? Unlike Skylar or Phillip or Colton, she doesn't really have a built in fan base. Personally, I find her to be a sympathetic figure because no matter what she does, the judges seem to be more critical of her than anyone else. The conspiracy theory I'd be most likely to embrace would be the judges are trying too hard to give Jessica a push and maybe it back fired with voters leaving Jessica in the bottom 3.

That's the thing: she doesn't. I'd say her 'fans' are young girls -- the same as Jessica's fans, except that Jessica gets the added bump of the Latin and Pinoy votes as well. Hence the surprise that she actually finished last, but it'll energize that fan base. Elise appeals to a slightly different group, being older and more of a rocker.

Since Hollie has to compete for the exact same fans as Jessica, and with the judges clearly trying to back Jessica to be the girl that breaks the WGWG string of winners, Hollie would be lucky to survive another week or two.

I have to wonder if some of the more tut-tutting viewers disapprove of her short skirts.

Same here, I like Hollie very much, she is a great kid with a really nice voice. If it wasn't for Jessica in the same year competing, I would say she would make the top 2 or 3 for sure. What I found is her performances are no where near as bad as what the judges have made them out to be. I know she seems like it's impossible to catch any sort of break, even when singing as well as most others or far better. She doesn't quite have the range of Jessica, but I would certainly say it's darn close when she is given a chance and not too nervous.

I agree that the judges seem overly harsh on Hollie. And not just because I have her in the pool. :)
I saw a comment or two online along the lines of "America is so racist, they'll never let a Filipino win!" Um, OK. . .

Ilike hollie here as well. very talented signer and I do hope she goes far in the competition. I think though that they're bang on about her not being able to connect with a song's emotion or power. and this shows when she's on tv. so this leaves her technical ability only, and if she makes any little mistake, it will be magnified because she's a "technical singer" and the Judges will be all over it.

Just one observation: Phillip seems to be the only one who thanks the musicians who appear on stage with him, perhaps because he's a musician himself? I noticed that he made it a point to shake hands with every one, whereas most singers just stand there 'soaking in the applause' and waiting for the judges to start commenting.

Nice that Hollie's favourite football (soccer to you lot) team recorded a message for her; her Scouse accent seemed in full force when Ryan spoke with her after her song. She seems to lapse into it more often these days. Perhaps that's partly the influence of their new American owners (John Henry of the Red Sox), since it amounts to free advertising anyway.

I’m not going to say that In The Midnight Hour was great or even good, but Phillip is the only singer who doesn’t give a shit — sex faces, spazzy dance moves, and constipated growls with zero calculation are better than the fake or robotic performances from the rest of the field. Everyone else is trying to craft a moment or whatever, but Phillip just does what he does. He’s like a shitty Mumblecore movie in a sea of focus-group tested PG-13 movies. I mean, it still sucks, but there’s at least some sort of integrity there you have to admire. No one this season has blatantly ignored as much advice from Jimmy and the producers as Phillip has. I completely forgot to watch last night (baseball *and* basketball were on). I assume that nothing terribly exciting happened?
