Remember when Android would never catch ios? Seems like just the other day Vudu was in the "other" category with .5%....

I just realized this week that the GPU in the Apple A8 chip/4th-Gen Apple TV is in the same PowerVR 6XT Series as the GPU in the 2nd-gen Amazon Fire TV. Not only that, the Apple TV (GX6450) has the higher-end GPU over the Fire TV (GX6250).

That means Hardware-wise, the Apple TV should be able to play 4K video. I wonder why Apple is holding it back.

I sorta agree. Amazon Prime guarantees that Amazon Video will remain the #1 non-iTunes VOD service to buy/rent movies & TV shows

REALLY, what market research do you base that on?

I didn't base that on any research. I'm basing that on Anecdotal evidence. Amazon Video has always been the go-to EST retailer for folks who don't use iTunes or/and don't have an Apple TV. I always imagined that Amazon Video would be the EST service I would eventually after I was done physical media before I got invested in a UV collection last year.

Which EST VOD service did you think was #1 behind iTunes if not Amazon Video?

He's right...

Market share for EST:

iTunes 45%
Amazon 18%
Vudu 15%

Where did you get those numbers? Link?

I would love to see how those numbers looked like before Vudu joined UV.

A quick search found this that matches up.

Looks like about 1%........

"Vudu's share share of U.S. consumer spending for movie electronic sell-through (EST) and Internet video on demand (iVOD) was 5.3 percent in the first half of 2011, up from 1.0 percent for the same period in 2010."

Are you seriously suggesting I made those numbers up?

A quick Google search for "iTunes Vudu Amazon market share" brings up this article from Recode:

You will note that those numbers exactly match Huskerbear's post, which came from a 2nd source. And my initial post first came about because you didn't believe Satam saying the same thing.

You're being damn rude to your fellow members, Sam...

2 year old data and I'm the unreasonable one? That chart lists Zune sales for crying out loud, and is estimates not based on actual sales reports from the vendors themselves...

Look at that date again, Sam. It's Jan 2013, 1 month shy of 3 years ago. Digital has grown a lot since then. iTunes has probably shrunk and vudu has definitely grown.
You got that right! I'm streaming a lot more in 2015 than in 2011/2012. It's now a regular routine of how I watch movies now, especially, those movies not yet available on BD or DVD.
