I didn't get any DVDs this year. (But I did give the box set of the Twilight Zone and L&H Meet the Mummy to my aunt.) However I did get a $100 gift certificate to dvdempire.com. Thanks Dad!

I got - Red Shoe Diaries (My mom picked this one. I never heard of it, and it's an Alliance full frame affair. Who knows?)
Red Shoe Diaries is a soft core porn series produced by Zalman King for Showtime. David Duchovney was the "host". That is pretty funny that your mom bought that for you.
My Xmas receipts were:
Die Hard (5 star)
A Few Good Men (SE)
Sleepless In Seattle (SE)
Miracle On 34th Street
West Side Story

I got:

Star Trek The Motion Picture

Willow

Swordfish

Jurassic Park III*

Planet of the Apes (2001)

Almost Famous Bootleg

*I actually got the pan-n-scan and went to Best Buy to exchange it. But because of their screwy holiday return procedure, they gave me the money back and I had to go buy the other widescreen one. Problem is the disk was not on sale anymore so I had to spend over $3.00 just to exchange a disk. I wrote a nasty letter.

Very happy with this year's gifts - not too much junk (only one, actually):

Citizen Kane (2 disc collector's set)

Close Encounters (collector's edition)

Glory (special edition)

Il Postino

Jurassic Park (dts collector's edition)

Like Water For Chocolate

The Mummy Returns (hmm...)

Notorious (criterion collection)

The World at War (5 disc documentary)

Now my only problem is finding the time to watch them all! (I was already on a mission to re-view my existing collection upon a recent upgrade to SVS!)

From previous Christmas experience, I only figured I might get 2-3 DVDs, tops; however, I was happily surprised this year to receive:
THE TAKING OF PELHAM 1 2 3
THE SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS
NEVER CRY WOLF
QUIGLEY DOWN UNDER
AVENGERS '68 Set 1 (2 discs)
AVENGERS '68 Set 2 (2 discs)
Most of my family aren't really movie/video collectors, but I gave my brother THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH (actually, that sounds a bit rude & sick  ).

  1. Forrest Gump: Special Edition
  2. Time Machine (1960)
  3. Gladiator (I'd only rented it when it came out.)
  4. Jurassic Park III: Collector's Edition (Widescreen)
  5. House on Haunted Hill (Vincent Price version)
  6. South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut[/list=1]

    Cheers.
*I actually got the pan-n-scan and went to Best Buy to exchange it. But because of their screwy holiday return procedure, they gave me the money back and I had to go buy the other widescreen one. I got How the Grinch Stole Christmas pan-and-scan. Since I liked neither the movie nor the format it was presented it, I took it to Walmart (since I had no idea where she'd gotten it and they have the most lenient no-receipt return policy) The version I had was in a green case and the versions they had (pan-and-scan only) were in black cases, I was nervous. But alas, I just kept it in the bag, and they made me exchange it (for Gladiator, since it's widescreen only) up front. The gal upfront had no idea what they had, so I made off scott free with a copy of Gladiator and seven cents for my troubles. Only problem is, I've run out of shelving space, since the case I made with my father won't fit in the living room. Now to enter the new titles into DVD Profiler.
