I used to buy the box sets but found that after seeing my favorite shows on TV a few times counting reruns, I would buy the box set, watch them once more and they sit collecting dust. Thankfully my local video store rents TV box sets, so I have gone that route

2+ Seasons of 24:
These are probably the most valued DVDs of my TV DVD collection. My parents watch 'em. My grandparents watch 'em. My grandparents friends watch 'em (I'm not making this up!). My friends watch 'em. My friend's uncle watch 'em (I didn't make that one up either). They are the most spun DVDs of my collection easily.

3+ Seasons of Alias:
I'm sure these will have great replay value. I need to get some people hooked on this one.

9 Seasons of Seinfeld:
This will probably be the best TV on DVD money I'll ever spend. Gotta pick up multiple copies for Festivus.

5 Seasons of Ally Mcbeal?:
Mr.Staddon, if you could find it in your heart to release this. I'd buy 'em all I tell ya! I don't get the fact that even though music rights aren't a problem for syndication on FX they are for DVD.

15+ Seasons of The Simpsons:
I may go all the way on this one fellas. The recent ones have made me laugh. Treehouse of Horror XIV: "Homer I disagree with the way you discipline the children" *BANG*

9 Seasons of X-files:
I know, I know. Seasons 8 & 9 = monkey poo yadda yadda yadda. I've come this far and this is a DVD TV show for me (First time watching them on DVD). I'll stay faithful to Mulder and Scully (Hey what guy wouldn't?) to the end.

11 Seasons of Cheers? :
I may limit myself on this one. I don't know if I can justify shelling out $400 more for this one. I mean it's a classic but I don't watch them all the time.

First speaking of TVShowsOnDVD.com sometimes I feel broke just reading the news items. I read something like In Living Color arrives in February and go, well there goes another $40.

Now I've got some questions.
For those of you that are like me that buy a lot of box sets:
1. What do you find the replay value of your sets? See, I don't just go through a season once, and then never worry about it again, I rewatch them over and over. I'm a person that can't stand to fall asleep to silence, so I usually pop Friends or the Simpsons in the player, hit play all and off I go. That's 1 reason I get bummed when a set is missing the play all option.
2. When you start with a series, do you just decide to see it through? Like I already know I'll own all 11 seasons of M*A*S*H, and all 10 of Friends. But, I didn't much care for seasons 9-12 of the Simpsons, and yet the moment those are announced for superduperultrahigh definition DVD in the year 3045 what is left of my corpse will preorder them.
3. Has owning so many box sets changed your TV viewing habbits? If I see an episode of a TV show I already have on DVD, I won't watch it on TV. I might once just to see if I can spot sindication cuts but that's it. I pass on the first 3 seasons of M*A*S*H episodes cause I've seen them so many times.
4. I once added up all the episodes of TV shows I have, and calculated how long I could run a TV station without showing a rerun episode, and it was for something like 18 and a half days. So since I did that, just exactly how much therapy do I need?

None! However, you DO need to keep on buying until you can keep a station afloat for 365 and 1/4 days without showing the same program twice!

Good call, only show the same program once a year. I think if I'm going to do this, I've got to start looking for good deals on Star Trek TNG, its the only series in that franchise I enjoy. You're right though with so much coming out, the replay value for some of the lesser shows for me like Jeffersons and Sanford will drop significantly.

My wallet is fine for now. I have:

I also have Band of Brother and a few other minor things.

For me it's not the cost holding me back (although it's always nice to save some money), it's the time. With two small kids, it's hard to find the time to watch everything. Plus my wife and I like to spread out the episodes to make the sets last. We occasionally loose control and watch 2-3 episodes in one sitting, but that's pretty rare. Now if I was single, I'd have tons more, but it just doesn't fit with my current lifestyle.

Unfortunately, I'm far from rich, so it may be a long while before I get the remaining seasons of some of these shows. All the other major movie and TV releases vying for my attention make things even harder.

I don't mind paying $30-50 for a full season (22-25) episodes and have been buying many series and plan to buy more (I think a good TV show often has more rewatchability than a good movie...at least they are shorter if you just watch one episode).

But I really have a problem with A&E charging $100 for season sets of Homicide. It seems like gouging (yet I still buy).

I have noticed more and more used TV on DVD sets at places like Tower and other used outlets for about half of what they cost new. Often they show up mere weeks after their initial release. I might buy marginaly interesting (to me) series like The West Wing or Law & Order that way.
