My dad posed this question to me (he doesn't know the answer either) and it's driving us nuts.

What movie has the most Academy Award-winning actors in it? They could have won before the movie, after the movie, for that movie, it doesn't matter.

The Godfather came to mind. Or maybe it's some big ensemble movie like The Longest Day? Anyone know?

I think the answer is "Network". Faye Dunaway, Peter Finch and Beatrice Straight all took home Oscars for their work.

I could be wrong, though.

Sincerely,

John Kilduff...

I'm just concerned with all the complaints that Warner is getting about the DVD covers. Will they still be using the original cover art for the movies they release?

I'd vote for "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" which had way too many fanous actors in it, but I could be wrong.

Wow, what a fun assignment. This one's got to be in the running:
Around the World in 80 Days
it has eight academy award winning actors:
David Niven (Separate Tables)
Shirley MacLaine (Terms of Endearment)
John Gielgud (Arthur)
Ronald Coleman (A Double Life)
Charles Coburn (The More the Merrier)
Frank Sinatra (From Here to Eternity)
Victor McLaglan (The Informer)
John Mills (Ryan's Daughter)

I did my homework, now someone else try and top that one.

Excellent!
And you even missed three more actors that were in that movie:

Joel Grey
Marlee Matlin
Rod Steiger

bringing the total to 12!

I almost thought I had a winner until I realized that Kate Winslet hasn't won despite being nominated four times. Plus Richard Attenborough won for directing, not acting. The film is Kenneth Branaugh's Hamlet, and the 8 winners are:

Richard Attenborough (director, Gandhi)
John Mills (supporting actor, Ryan's Daughter)
Julie Christie (actress, Darling + 2 other noms)
Judi Dench (supporting actress, Shakespeare in Love + 4 other noms)
John Gielgud (supporting actor, Arthur + 1 other nom)
Charlton Heston (actor, Ben-Hur, )
Robin Williams (supporting actor, Good Will Hunting + 3 other noms)
Jack Lemmon (actor, Save the Tiger; supporting actor, Mister Roberts, + 6 other noms)

Branaugh has three noms himself, yet no wins.

***Edited to note that I typed this up before the posts about The Player were posted, although it seems like cheating to include performers appearing as themselves in background roles. :)
