Part of the confusion around whether the Michael Shayne Dressed to Kill (1941) is in color is that Fox simultaneously released the Sherlock Holmes Dressed to Kill (1946) in both colorized and B&W versions on one disk, and renamed it Prelude to Murder to avoid confusion with the Shayne release.
Not sure what the marketing folks were thinking, releasing two different movies from the '40s, on the same date, with the same original title, one including a colorized version and one not.
